Rizzla shares his week eight Yahoo daily fantasy football lineup for this weekend and shares some of the rationale behind rostering each player.

This week we will take a complete look at my Yahoo DFS Freeroll lineup and discuss the rationale behind each player I chose to plug-in. As you will notice this week I opted against a balanced lineup in favor of starting my studs and pinpointing solid value plays to fill out the roster.

Kirk Cousins ($33 Salary; 8th salary rank; 2nd personal rank)

Second in our quarterback rankings this week Kirk Cousins has a tasty matchup on tap with the high-octane New Orleans Saints this weekend. In what is sure to morph into a shootout Cousins gets to go up against a Saints defense surrendering the second most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Kirk Cousins has proven to be a high-end QB1 in good matchups and they don’t get much better than this. Cousins made my lineup due to his glaring potential value salary rank wise.

Todd Gurley ($40 Salary; 1st salary rank; 1st personal rank)

In a class all to himself this season at the running back position, I start every DFS lineup with Todd Gurley and figure out the rest. This week against the Green Bay Packers is no different.

Tarik Cohen ($17 Salary; 25 salary rank; 10th personal rank)

Tarik Cohen has exploded onto the fantasy scene and currently ranks 13th among running backs both in total and average points. My tenth overall running back this week Cohen has a plus matchup against a Jets run defense who has their numbers a little skewed due to facing the Dolphins and the week one version of the Detroit Lions. Cohen looks like a solid value this week at his salary and is also a top play.

More from DFS

Adam Thielen ($39 Salary; 1st salary rank; 1st personal rank)

With a plus matchup on tap against a New Orleans Saints defense giving up the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers, Adam Thielen seems destined to join future hall of famer Calvin Johnson as the only receivers ever to have eight straight 100 yard receiving games. Thielen has emerged as the most consistent fantasy performer at wide receiver this season so its is no shock that he comes in first in salary rank with the requisite hefty price tag. Thielen was chosen this week despite his price tag due to his advantageous matchup and a dominant target share of 30.8 percent.

Jarvis Landry ($19 salary; 24th salary rank; 12th personal rank)

Fresh off of his best fantasy performance of the season Jarvis Landry has another exploitable matchup this weekend against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have surrendered the fourth most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers and will have no answer for Landry’s dynamism in the slot. Landry has a betting chance to surpass last weeks outing and post new season highs in a plus matchup versus a susceptible Steelers second level.

Martavis Bryant ($11 salary; 62nd salary rank, 46th personal rank)

With Amari Cooper the latest casualty to the Jon Gruden implosion Martavis Bryant has found himself thrust into a high leverage role for the Raiders. Already top 25 in air yards over his past three contests Bryant looks set for an explosion against an Indianapolis Colts defense giving up the 12th most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Bryant was a solid value play that I sought out to stick in this weeks lineup.

David Njoku ($16 salary; 10th salary rank; 4th personal rank)

Fourth among tight ends with a 19.5 percent target share David Njoku ranks fifth in fantasy points since Baker Mayfield took over as the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback. Jumping to second among tight ends in target share during that time Njoku looks primed to exploit a plus matchup against a Pittsburgh Steelers defense surrendering the third most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Njoku was a target for this week before salary information was available.

Jermaine Kearse ($12 salary; 59th salary rank; 41st personal rank)

Jermaine Kearse may be the only fantasy relevant receiver active this weekend that knows the New York Jets playbook. Opportunity abounds with Quincy Enunwa sidelined, Robby Anderson missing practice and as you may have missed the Jets cut Terrelle Pryor last week and earlier today placed pass catching back Bilal Powell on IR with a career threatening injury. Kearse was an unmitigated disaster in week seven seeing only two targets while corralling exactly none. However he ran 32 routes and as mentioned above may be the Jets top active receiver who even knows the playbook with new addition Rishard Matthews still getting up to speed. Even if Anderson is active Kearse looks in line to have a volume heavy day against a Bears defense giving up the eighth most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Kearse made his way into the flex spot by virtue of being one of the top options $12 or under.

Detroit Lions ($13 salary; 14 salary rank)

While I don’t do personal defensive/special teams rankings the Detroit Lions look like a strong play this week. Matt Patricia knows how to get his defensive unit going in big games and you can bet facing nemesis Russell Wilson qualifies. I tabbed the Lions defense in my lineup even before the stunning acquisition of run stuffer Damon Harrison which only serves to solidify them as a high leverage play. Harrison gives the Lions an imposing front seven even with Ezekiel Ansah on the sidelines giving the Lions multiple sack upside this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks.
