NBA Rookie Rankings: Luka Doncic starts out on top
1. Luka Doncic
If you haven’t watched Doncic play yet then you need to stop what you’re doing and watch a replay of one of his first three games. He’s been nothing short of sensational to start his career with the Mavericks.
He hasn’t played quite as efficiently as some of the other players on this list, but his penchant for making the difficult play look downright easy puts him at the top of this list. The fact that a veteran coach like Carlisle already trusts him to run the offense with the ball in his hands speaks volumes.
The scary thing about Doncic is that he’s clearly just scratching the surface of his prodigious talent. When you watch him on film it’s clear he’s not in prime NBA shape. In all honesty, he may not get to that point until his second season. Trying to play your way into NBA shape is typically a big challenge.
The Slovenian sensation is already averaging 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. Look for the scoring to wax and wane, but his playmaking numbers are only going to increase as the season goes on. Doncic is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the league already. The sky is the limit for this kid.
