NHL DFS Man Advantage Thursday October 25
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Thursday October 25! Tonight we have a massive 10 game slate on tap. I am going to break down some of the projected highest scoring match ups on the night along with some top plays from the rest of the games.
Late night is Western Canada is where some of the best NHL DFS action is going to be! We have Sid the Kid and the Penguins in Calgary while the Ove and the Caps play McDavid and the Oilers. After the 5 goal output they showed on Tuesday night we have a high scoring game in Chi-Town when the Rangers come to town.
NHL DFS Goalies
Looking over the slate numerous times I cannot find another goalie I like more the Devan Dubnyk hosting LA. Dubnyk has had a great start to the season with a .944 SV% and a 2.11 GAA. Minnesota has won 3 straight coming in to this game. If Alex Stalock starts for Minnesota is a viable option but not the top goalie.
John Gibson is my 2nd ranked goalie on the night and is only behind Dubnyk because of his match up. Anaheim has lost 3 straight (2 of those started by Gibson) but has a winnable match up with Dallas on Thursday. Gibson has a .949 SV% on the season with a 1.93 GAA to go along with a 11.93 GSAA and he has 7 quality starts (out of 8 starts).
My third goalie on the night is Antti Raanta as he takes on Vancouver on the second of a back to back for Vancouver. Raanta’s record may show he is 2-4 but his stats show it’s not all because of him and more of the inability of his team to score. Raanta is sporting a .911 SV% and a 2.32 GAA.
GPP Options:
1- Tuuka Rask (BOS)
2- Antti Niemi (MTL)
3-Henrik Lunquist (NYR)
4- Jake Allen (STL)
NHL DFS Game Breakdowns
Philadelphia Flyers @ Boston Bruins
Line Stacks:
Philadelphia I am going to go back to the same line I recommended on Monday for the Flyers, their second line of Jakub Voracek – Nolan Patrick – Scott Laughton. Patrick scored the only goal for the Flyers on Monday night with Voracek getting an assist. As far as the first line for Philly, only Claude Giroux is the best fantasy option.
Boston- It’s the first line, as usual. Boston has little to no scoring depth beyond Brad Marchand – Patrice Bergeron – David Pastrnak. They are going to cost you a lot of money, but they are worth it. Whoever is in net for the Flyers won’t be good and there should be goals a plenty for Boston and these three will definitely be involved.
Values Plays:
Philadelphia Travis Konecny ($3.9K) has been moved to first line with Giroux, which should boost his fantasy value. On the season Konecny has 2 goals on 18 shots and 3 assists as well.
Boston- For Boston there is not much value available, but if you want to take a chance or save some cash but still get some exposure to the first line you can use Danton Heinen ($3.8K). Heinen plays on the B’s second line, but plays on the first PP unit with the big three
Defensemen:
Philadelphia Pretty much all of the Flyers D men have gone cold. If you want to play one then I woulld just suggest paying up for the best defenseman they have, Shayne Gostisbehere.
Boston- Charlie McAvoy is still out, and unless something changes he won’t be playing Thursday so this makes Matt Grzelcyk the top Bruins D man option with 5 assists on the season and 1 each in the last 3 games
New York Rangers @ Chicago Blackhawks
Line Stacks:
New York- The Rangers first line is heating up and it starts with center Mika Zibanejad who has 5 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 games, also in their last 5 games Mats Zuccarello has 2 goals and 3 assists and Chris Kreider has 2 goals and 2 assists in the last 5.
Chicago- Chicago’s 1st line is also the best stacking option on the night as well. Alex DeBrincat – Jonathan Toews – Dominik Kahun have been on a roll to start the season and look to continue that on Thursday. Patrick Kane is the best one-off option when it comes to Chicago playing on the second line.
Value Plays:
New York- Jesper Fast ($4.4K) is a pretty good value option on the night for the Rangers. On the season Fast has 1 goal on 16 shots and 4 assists.
Chicago- Nick Schmaltz ($4.4k) is the best value option for the Hawks on Thursday with 1 goals on 15 shots to go along with his 5 assists
Defensemen:
New York- Once again Neal Pionk is the best defensive option for fantasy with 6 assists so far this season which is good for 4th on the team
Chicago- Brent Seabrook has been playing very well to start the year for the Hawks. Seabrook has 1 goal and 5 assists.
Pittsburgh Penguins @ Calgary Flames
Line Stacks:
Pittsburgh- After the way Sidney Crosby played on Tuesday night, I have to go back to the well here with the Pens line 1. Crosby had a sick game winning goal on Tuesday and he plays on the top line with Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust
Calgary- Calgary also has two lines capable of putting up big numbers like the Penguins do. I am liking how the Flames first line has meshed this season with addition of Elias Lindholm to the first line this year joining Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan.
Value Plays:
Pittsburgh- To really find value on the Pens you have to dig deep and I like the way Dominick Simon ($3.3K) has been playing as off late and see time on the 2nd PP unit for the Penguins
Calgary- Mikael Backlund ($4.6) has been playing well as the second line center for the Flames alongside Matthew Tkachul and Micheal Frolik. On the season Backlund has 1 goal and 5 assists and he’s taken 24 shots.
Defensemen:
Pittsburgh- Kris Letang is obviously a top option, but I want to give you someone else who’s benn playing well. Jamie Oleksiak has been a nice role player for the Pens this season but he has also contributed 3 goals to the mix as well.
Calgary- For the Flames, it’s their top D man in Mark Giordano that I am interested in for tonight. Giordano has 1 goal and 6 assists on season for Calgary.
Washington Capitals @ Edmonton Oilers
Line Stacks:
Washington- You are going to have to make a decision on which lines you want to use but after seeing what the Penguins did to the Oilers on Tuesday, I definitely plan on getting exposure to Washington line 1, Alex Ovechkin – Evgney Kuznetsov – Devante Smith-Pelly . DSP was moved to the first line last game and is a great value option to use with this line and will save you some cash for another high-end player.
Edmonton- For Edmonton it’s all about the top line of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – Connor McDavid – Kailer Yamamoto. Like the DSP on the Caps, Yamamoto is a value play to go along with two top end talents.
Value Plays:
Washington- Brett Connolly ($4.3K) has 1 goal and 5 assists on the season for the Caps playing on the 3rd line and also the 2nd pp unit.
Edmonton- Milan Lucic ($3.2K) hasn’t been that productive this season but even though he plays on the 3rd line for the Oilers, he also gets time on the 1st PP unit.
Defenseman:
Washington- Even though he is the most expensive d man on the slate tonight I am going to go with John Carlson and his team leading 13 points (tied with 3 others). Carlson plays over 26 mins per game on the top D pair and PP unit.
Edmonton- Oscar Klefbom leads all d men on the Oilers with 3 points and also avg time on ice with over 25 minutes.
NHL DFS Best of the Rest
Montreal Canadiens
Montreal’s top line is producing but I am more interested in using their second line of Jonathan Drouin – Max Domi – Artturi Lehkonen scoring 6 goals and 14 assists on the season this year. Top D man for the night is Jeff Petry with 1 goal and 7 assists as well as over 23:30 of avg ice time per game

Columbus Blue Jackets
For Columbus I am interested in a first PP unit stack of Anthony Duclair – Artemi Panarin – Zach Werenski. You can also use Nick Foligno or Boone Jenner as forwards.
Arizone Coyotes
With the return last game of Alex Galchenyuk the Coyotes should see an uptick in goals. Galchenyuk is playing on the first line with Clayton Keller (Leads team 5 points) and Lawson Crouse. Also an option is Christian Fischer leads the team in goals with 4.
New Jersey Devils
I do not want too much exposure to the Devils if Juuse Saros is in net, but if Svboda plays then I want to get some Devils in my lineups. I am looking at Taylor Hall (1 goal 7 assists) and Kyle Palmieri (7 goals 1 assist). Damon Severson is a good value option on D with 1 goal and 4 assists
