Fantasy Football: FanDuel NFL DFS Picks for Week Eight – Cash Games

FanDuel NFL DFS Picks for Week Eight – Cash Games
Week Eight of Fanduel NFL DFS is upon us, which signifies the halfway point of the NFL season that matters. The Zero-RB truthers are coming out of the woodwork and everyone who touted Lamar Miller as a value pick has had a great two week stretch. This lineup looks to be the most balanced one we’ve had so far, since Todd Gurley‘s price is astronomically high, but for good reason. Gurley is looking to be the fantasy MVP for a second year in a row and I can’t say I saw this coming – at least not at this high of a level.
Fun fact of the week: Both Melvin Gordon and Todd Gurley are on pace for top five seasons all time in terms of fantasy PPG, so either the NFL has changed or those two are truly generational talents (looking at you, Giants front office). Let’s dive into this weeks FanDuel optimal lineup, chock full of high upside plays.
FanDuel Cash Game Lineup – Week Eight
Quarterback – Jameis Winston- $7,800
Winston has been solid from a fantasy perspective since he took over the reigns from the magical Ryan Fitzpatrick, and this week we have him in the best spot yet. The Bengals surrender over 22 points per game to opposing quarterbacks which is good enough for fifth worst in the NFL. If you pair that with the Bengals ability to rack up points and the fact they aren’t playing during primetime means that this game should be a shootout that sees both Dalton and Winston throwing the ball all afternoon.
Winston has shown the ability to put up huge fantasy numbers in the past and the Bucs disgusting running game only yields more opportunity for him when they have to play catchup. He will continue to be a top five option until he’s not, and FanDuel has yet to reflect that in his pricing. He’s a lock this week and both him and Dalton serve as the top two streaming options at the position.
FanDuel NFL DFS Picks for Week Eight – Running Backs
Kareem Hunt -$8,100
This isn’t as hot of a take as it may have been earlier in the year, but I truly think Kareem Hunt is the best pure “running” back we have in the NFL. His ability to break tackles and make something out of nothing is nearly unmatched and he defines the old school way to play the position. This week he takes on a Broncos team that’s been solid against the run overall but surrendered 23 points to Hunt in week four already. The Chiefs offense and the stellar play of Pat Mahomes gives Hunt a weekly floor that mirrors only Todd Gurley since they have so many opportunities in the red zone. Hunt is one of the few high floor, high ceiling options in the NFL and he’s worth the discount this week to pivot from Gurley ($11k, SHEESH).
David Johnson – $7,300
Byron Leftwich: the world is watching you this week and fantasy players everywhere are praying you can save their season. The Cardinals finally moved on from Mike McCoy four weeks later than they should have, and Leftwich has already come out and discussed how they want to feature DJ in the same manner that Bruce Arians did. This week he takes on a 49er’s team that surrenders 22 fantasy ppg to opposing running backs, and DJ ranks fourth in the league in attempts per game. If Leftwich can even spice things up a tiny bit offensively, Johnson is the type of player that can go off immediately. He should see goal line work this week and the matchup is good enough that the Cardinals should stay in the game which provides a solid game script for Johnson. He’d only need to fall into the end zone once to find value, and he should have no issue doing that at least one time this week.
FanDuel NFL DFS Picks for Week Eight – WR’s
Davante Adams- $8,600
Adams has a nearly 50% target share in the red zone this year and he’s catching passes from one of the best quarterbacks of all time. This game should be the most exciting one we see all weekend, and the Rams have the ability to put points on the board at a rate we haven’t seen in a very long time. Rodgers and the Packers offense will have to throw the ball all over the field and every time that happens we see Adams feast against whoever he matches up with. The Rams have allowed 7 wide receivers to see at least seventeen PPR points so far this year and Adams should matchup against Marcus Peters who has a perception that’s a lot more favorable than his stats actually show. Adams could easily be the WR1 this week and he’s another absolute lock for cash games. Adams is averaging 24.1 PPR points a week and has gone through the toughest CB schedule of any player in the NFL so far…. watch out for him in the second half of the year.
Jarvis Landry – $6,300
FINALLY! Jarvis delivered a big game for all of us that have dealt with his confusing production this season. Statistically Landry is the most underwhelming fantasy receiver in the league based on expected production, but last week he finally hit pay dirt and made his fantasy owners happy. He has another phenomenal matchup this week against a Steelers secondary that surrenders the third most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers of any team in the NFL. He should have another week filled with targets and his price is still cheap enough that as long as Mayfield can feed him the ball, he will help us cash.
Tyler Boyd – $6,800
I know what you’re going to say…. “but, but last week!”. I don’t blame anyone for being gun-shy but remember that very few players can dominate every single week and Boyd has only had one rough game through the first seven he’s played in. The Bucs secondary resembles a high school team most of the time, and they surrender a whopping 30.6 fantasy ppg to opposing receivers. Both Green and Boyd should have a field day this Sunday and Dalton will likely look for Boyd out of the slot early and often. He’s been an excellent cash game choice almost every week so far this year and this week is no different. Boyd should provide a high-end WR3 floor with WR1 upside if he can find the end zone.
FanDuel NFL DFS Picks for Week Eight – TE and DEF
David Njoku- $5,700
Zach Ertz and Eric Ebron are the only two tight ends to see more targets in the past three weeks than Njoku. He’s becoming the top option for Mayfield in the red zone and if you watch hard knocks you know exactly why. Since week five he’s been the TE3 and his schedule is only getting easier. He takes on that same Steelers secondary that has allowed the third most points to opposing TE’s through seven weeks this year. Njoku and Landry are the top dogs on this offense and Mayfield has improved his connection with both of them every week we’ve seen him start. Njoku is emerging as one of the better red zone threats in the NFL and he’s also been great between the twenties. He is priced incredibly cheap this week compared to his target totals, so let’s stop asking questions and lock him in.

Flex – Taylor Gabriel – $5,500
No risk it, no biscuit….. Gabriel disappointed his owners last week so I’d understand if you want to pivot away from him, but he takes on a Jets secondary surrendering the seventh most points per game to opposing receivers, and there’s a good chance that Allen Robinson sits this one out with a groin injury, and that would open up a lot of targets for Gabriel and Anthony Miller. Gabriel was on the cusp of being an every week starter before last Sunday, so it was disappointing to see him put up a dud. This week he should be able to get behind the Jets secondary and break off a few long plays, and last week their head coach Matt Nagy went his way twice in the red zone but Gabriel ran into a few brick walls. Look for him to bounce back this week and hit value… and then some.
D/ST – Arizona Cardinals -$3,400
The Cardinals and Niners are in a fight for who gives up the most points to opposing D/ST’s this week, as both of them rank in the bottom three overall in that category. The Niners offense lacks the explosion potential it once had with Jimmy G and they’ve provided a nice floor for opposing defensive units. This game could be one of those ugly 10-7 type games, or it could blow up into a full-fledged Rosen vs Beathard shootout (although that’s unlikely). The Niners surrender double-digit points on average to opposing fantasy D/ST’s, so this should be a nice match-up for the Cardinals to provide value. Look for them to pair well with DJ and help you cash out in week eight.
I’ll continue to do these week by week, but in the mean time throw me a follow on Twitter @TheFFGator and don’t hesitate to reach out with any tough lineup decisions you may have. Good luck this week!
