Fortnite has been known to dive deep into holiday seasons with skins, emotes, in-game decor and themed challenges, but Fortnitemares is much more than just cosmetics.

For the week leading into Halloween, Epic Games has unleashed Fortnitemares. The Halloween version of Fortnite introduced new (and old) weapons, a plethora of Halloween-themed decor and aura through the map and most importantly, cube monsters (or zombies).

When the purple cube split “Kevin” on Wednesday, smaller purple tombs/statues arose all over the map. They consistently spawn zombie-like monsters that you’ll have to fight off until the statues are destroyed. These zombies attack you, but they also provide resources such as weapons, ammo and various other items.

Fighting cube monsters is a fun new way to loot. It’s also a massive game changer in terms of general game play in all modes. You no longer only have to worry about other players, but also have to fend off nearby zombies that chase you and slowly destroy your structures.

It can be distracting at times, but in a fun way. For example, I was playing squads last night and three of us were taking out monsters for a good portion of the match. Suddenly, shots started coming in from nearby and we realized there were only two other players left in the match. The cube monsters are distracting, but so much fun!

It’s also very important to note that the glider function from the “Soaring 50’s” LTM is in play in all game modes now. That means no more building down mountain tops. Just jump and hit the glider button. Also, ramp up high and fly if you are stuck in the storm.

Fortnitemares also came with its own set of challenges. Every couple of days (until Halloween), a new set of four challenges will release. Along with providing the usual cheat sheet for the weekly battle pass challenges, we’ll kick off with these special edition challenges today.

Fortnitemares challenges

  • Destroy cube monsters (0/200)
  • Deal damage with assault rifles or pistols to cube monsters (0/5000)
  • Visit a corrupted area in different matches (0/7)
  • Dance at different gargoyles (0/5)

None of these are difficult challenges to complete. The cube monsters are easily destroyed. Dancing at different gargoyles can be confusing if you don’t know what you are looking for, so here is a map provided by GameSpot as to their locations.

Free challenges

  • Record a speed of 27 or more on different radar signs (0/5)
  • Jump through flaming hoops with a shopping cart or ATK (0/5)
  • Stage 1: Deal damage with tactical shotguns to opponents (0/200)
    • Stage 2: Pump Shotguns (0/200)
    • Stage 3: Heavy shotguns (0/200)

These free challenges seem to be getting progressively more difficult, which is great because they were terribly easy at the beginning of this season. Here is where you can find radar signs, courtesy of Forbes. It is probably easiest to hit the required speed with the new Quad Crashers as they have the boost option.

The flaming hoops are located all over the map and are relatively easy to spot. Chances are you can already locate them from last season’s version of this challenge. As far as dealing damage with shotguns, the hardest part of this challenge is going to be finding the heavy shotty.

Battle Pass challenges

  • Eliminate an opponents closer than 5m away (0/2)
  • Deal damage with SMGs to opponents (0/500)
  • Minigun eliminations (0/2)
  • Stage 1: Deal damage with standard pistol to opponents (0/200)
    • Stage 2: Deal damage with hand cannons to opponents (0/200)
    • Stage 3: Deal damage with six shooters to opponents (0/200)

Eliminating opponents within a 5m radius will likely also help with your shotgun damage challenge. SMG damage is one we’ve seen before and should not be hard to complete.

Pistols and miniguns? Wow. Including minigun eliminations is a nice troll by Epic, as most players leave these behind or only use them to take out larger builds. Pistols are often left behind as well, but they can do some close range damage so this challenge won’t be overly difficult.

Six shooters are the most recent weapon introduced. They are an updated version of the revolver with a sleeker look and a slightly quicker shooting speed. Dishing out damage with these shouldn’t be too bad if your aim is half decent.

Elimination of the week

This week’s elimination of the week comes from @DreeKnowsss and it encapsulates what the Fortnitemares end game now looks like. Expect this level of chaos as you close out matches.
