Ninja, Red Bull want you to ring in the New Year with a Fortnite stream from Times Square
By Nick Tylwalk
Cancel your normal New Year’s Eve plans and get ready for 12 hours of Ninja to ring in the New Year.
Watching the ball drop in Times Square is a New Year’s Eve tradition for millions, but Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins and Red Bull are going to do their best to convince you to watch people dropping out of the Battle Bus in Fortnite this year instead.
The mega popular streaming personality is teaming once again with Red Bull for a 12-hour Fortnite stream that will start at 4:00 p.m. ET on Dec. 31 and run until 4:00 a.m. on Jan. 1. Naturally, it will include special guests that Ninja will announce on Twitter and Instagram leading up to the event, but what will really set this stream apart is where it’s taking place: Ninja is bringing all his competitive computer gear to set up overlooking Times Square.
“When I started in gaming, I never thought that something like this would be possible,” Ninja said during the announcement of the Fortnite stream at TwitchCon 2018. “NYE has always been fun for gamers because it’s a night where you have a widely accepted excuse to stay up and game, but there’s never been an event in the mainstream that’s actually built around that tradition. This is just my ultimate NYE Fortnite LAN party with some of my best friends and a few surprises that I hope we as a community can have a lot of fun with.”
Watching the Red Bull New Year’s Eve Fortnite stream will be easy, as you can catch it on Ninja’s Twitch channel. Plus, in the true spirit of New Year’s Eve, there’s a countdown clock on Ninja’s website counting down until the event kicks off.
We’re not saying this is automatically going to become your new tradition, but compared to the usual standing around outside in the cold, it’s pretty tempting. And hey, you can always switch over to the ball drop and get right back to Fortnite once you’ve ushered in 2019.
