Host Chris Hardwick is joined by Walking Dead alumni Michael Rooker, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and showrunner Angela Kang on tonight’s Talking Dead.
Tonight’s Talking Dead will be the absolute closest Walking Dead fans will get to Merle and Negan talking outside the two hour special following season 8’s premiere TWD episode. Showrunner Angela Kang will join Michael Rooker and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in what’s sure to be a powerful Walking Dead episode as Rick Grimes is seen fighting his own best friend and brother Daryl in the preview trailer.
You can catch Talking Dead live tonight at 10:05 p.m. ET / 9:05 p.m. Central on AMC’s official live stream or with or with a seven-day free trial at FuboTV.
Rick’s vision of fulfilling Carl’s dream is seemingly unraveling every episode and Oceanside’s transgression against The Saviors last week does not bode well for the future. It’ll be interesting to hear what Michael Rooker has to say about the actions of his on-screen brother, as he’s always amusingly defended Daryl in the past no matter what he’s done. Will he approve Daryl punching Rick?

Would Merle have joined The Saviors and led Sanctuary with Negan as Simon did if he was still around this time? Merle did once join The Governor at Woodbury, so it’s likely he would have but the natural conflict as it was prior would be Daryl being on Rick’s side. Jeffrey Dean Morgan will likely make a great case if asked on why Merle would have joined The Saviors. One wonders if Michael Rooker will make some kind of cameo in a dream sequence or hallucination for Daryl as the series shifts away from Rick Grimes.
A familiar face is always a strong motivator for casual viewers to stay around after Rick Grimes’ already announced character end on the show. Michael Rooker is a first class actor, so you know if a return sequence ever happened, no matter how brief, it would be a highlight of the season.
Last week’s Talking Dead scored a 1.87 rating for AMC according to TVByTheNumbers, up from the week prior. This season of Talking Dead opened to a 2.22 rating originally. It’s likely many long time Walking Dead fans will be tuning in the next few episodes to pay their respects to the one and only Rick Grimes.
