2. John DeFilippo

DeFilippo is in his first season as  offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, after serving as quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles the previous two seasons. His role in Carson Wentz’s development is a point in his corner as a head coaching candidate, and his work with Minnesota’s’ offense this season should advance that resume.

DeFilippo was offensive coordinator for the Browns in 2015, the second of Mike Pettine’s two seasons as head coach. His past stops as a quarterbacks coach over the last decade include the Oakland Raiders (2007-2008, 2012-2014), the New York Jets (2009) and San Jose State (2010-2011, the latter season as offensive coordinator too).

DeFilippo interviewed for the head coaching job with the San Francisco 49ers after that one season as Browns’ offensive coordinator, and he interviewed with the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals before landing with the Vikings. He’s sure to be near the top of any list of candidates for head coaching openings after this season, and the Browns should have a lot of interest.
