ACC power rankings, Week 10: Clemson gives Florida State historic loss
All Bronco Mendenhall’s team does every week is go out and grind out victories. Winning by 10 against North Carolina at home isn’t an impressive win, but it did elevate the Cavaliers to 4-1 in the ACC. They’ve got a great chance to play Clemson in the ACC Title Game.
As usual, Bryce Perkins did everything for the Virginia offense. He led his team with 217 passing yards and 112 yards on the ground. He’s the most productive offensive player in college football that most fans don’t know about. If the Cavaliers keep racking up wins, that’s going to change.
The Orange continue to have one of their best seasons in recent memory. Their win over the Wolfpack makes them a lock to head to a bowl this season. That’s a terrific accomplishment by Dino Babers and his staff.
Sean Riley and Nykeim Johnson both went over 100 receiving yards in this one. Their ability to terrorize the NC State secondary opened up the entire field for Eric Dungey and company. Anytime you throw for 480 yards you’re going to have a great chance to win.
The Hokies drop a spot this week after an ugly home loss to Georgia Tech. Virginia Tech looked totally unprepared for the triple option attack the Jackets brought to town. That’s inexcusable for an ACC opponent.
The offense played reasonably well, but this wasn’t the explosive unit we’re used to seeing. They simply didn’t have enough of the ball to put up big numbers. They ended up with just 323 yards of total offense on the night. It was a team loss for the Hokies.
Malik Rosier just wasn’t good enough to get Mark Richt’s team a victory at Boston College. He was good on the ground, but he couldn’t throw the ball consistently enough to keep his offense on schedule. That, combined with an inability to match Boston College’s physical offensive line cost Miami an opportunity to score an important win.
DeeJay Dallas’ inability to get going also kept the Miami offense in neutral. He finished the game with just 30 yards rushing on nine carries. The Hurricanes just didn’t do anything well on offense in this one. As such, they drop a spot in this week’s power rankings.
