NHL DFS Man Advantage Monday October 29th
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Monday October 29th! Tonight we have a very small 2 game slate featuring some pretty high scoring teams which could make your goaltending choice difficult. Minnesota has the least amount of goals scored with 29 on the season, but they’ve scored 18 goals in their last 4 games. Vancouver seems to be coming back down to earth only scoring 6 goals in their last 4. As for the early game it’s two of the top 7 scoring teams in the league when Calgary visits Toronto. Toronto will be without Auston Matthews which will definitely hinder their offense.
Sorry there was no article for Saturday, I was not feeling well and just need to rest up for a couple of days, but I am feeling much better and ready to get back to work!! With only 2 games on tap for tonight I am going to give you my top goalie pick and then break down both games in my typical top line stack, value play, and defenseman. Good luck tonight!!
NHL DFS Goalie
On a small slate like this there aren’t many choices in net obviously, and there’s even less when you consider Toronto is one of the 4 teams playing on this slate. Until I see Toronto go completely cold for a stretch I cannot put a goalie in my roster against them. If you are playing a bigger/multi entry GPP then that is the only way I would play Mike Smith tonight against them. My choice for goalie on the night is Devan Dubnyk, assuming he starts for the Wild. If Dubnyk doesn’t start I am ok with Alex Stalock as a replacement. On the season Dubnyk is 5-1-2 with 1.96 GAA and a .945 SV% and a great 10.56 GSAA. If you want to use Frederick Andersen against the Flames, I get it, because he will most likely get you the win bonus, but may also give up 3-4 goals. Andersen’s save percentage is an ok .916 and a GAA of 2.58. We also know the Leafs will not have Matthews in the lineup and have lost 2 of their last 3 games.
NHL DFS Game Breakdowns
Calgary Flames @ Toronto Maple Leafs
Top Line Stacks:
Toronto- Typically I will give you a straight 3 man forward line, but with the changes the Leafs have made with Matthews out, I want to stack their first power play unit. Doing this will give you the opportunity to get exposure to both of the top scoring lines for the Leafs. Looking at DailyFaceoff.com lines which they update throughout the day they have the first PP unit listed as
Mitch Marner – Nazem Kadri – John Tavares
Morgan Rielly – Kasperi Kapanen
This unit will get plenty of ice time with Kadri seeing the biggest bump in minutes taking Matthews spot centering the second line. They are all a bit expensive as Kapanen is the cheapest of the 5 at $5.4K. You can afford to pay up for this guys because there is some value elsewhere on this slate.
Calgary- Calgary has changed up their lines of late but the best line to use to save you some cash to fit the top guys from Toronto in is probably their second line of Matthew Tkachuk – Mikael Backlund – Austin Czarnik. Tkachuk is second on the team in points (13) and tied for the lead in assists (9), and Backlund has 1 goal and 5 assists over 11 games. Czarnik has only 1 goal and 2 assists but he has mainly been relegated to 3rd and 4th line duties, but seeing him with the second line may open up more scoring opportunities and ice time.
Value plays:
Toronto- There is not really much value to be found on the Maple Leafs, but if you want to play Zach Hyman ($4.1K) I can understand your reasoning. Hyman does play on the top line with Tavares and Kapanen so the opportunity is there for points, but he just hasn’t capitalized on it yet this season.
Calgary- Elias Lindolm ($4.8K) is the best value play for the Flames with 7 goals and 3 assists on the season. Lindolm is now centering the Flames third line but he is still being listed as a member of the first PP unit for the Flames.
Defensemen:
Toronto- Jake Gardiner at $4.5K is a pretty good value for the a defenseman on the Leafs. On the season Gardiner has 1 goal and 6 assists and also see over 21 minutes of ice time per game. Gardiner also sees time on the Leafs second PP unit.
Calgary- On the other hand you have a high-priced d option in Mark Giordano of the Flames. There isn’t really another defenseman giving you the offense you need in DFS to cash. On the season Giordano has 1 goal and 8 assists as well 16 blocked shots on the season while averaging nearly 25 minutes a game.

Minnesota Wild @ Vancouver Canucks
Top Line Stacks:
Minnesota- Minnesota’s top line is the best stacking option on tonight’s slate, the line of Jason Zucker – Eric Staal – Nino Niederreiter has combined for 7 goals and 11 assists and comes in almost $2k less than their minimally more productive second line. All three also play on the first PP unit together
Vancouver- Elias Pettersson returned to the lineup this past Saturday against the Penguins but the Canucks were held scoreless. Pettersson is back on the first line now playing with Brock Boeser (2 goals 4 assists) and Nikolay Goldobin (1 goal 2 assists).

Value Plays:
Minnesota- Charlie Coyle ($3.9K) has 10 DK points in his last 3 games along with 2 goals and 3 assists on the season while centering the 3rd line and playing on the second PP unit for the Wild.
Vancouver- For Vancouver’s value play I go back to someone I’ve mentioned before, Jake Virtanen. On the season Virtanen has 2 goals and 2 assists, he also sees time playing with the second PP unit of the Canucks
Defensemen:
Minnesota- Matt Dumba is my favorite choice for a defenseman from the Wild. Over the last 4 games Dumba is averaging over 3 FPPG and 3 goals and 2 assists on the year averaging over 24 minutes per game
Vancouver- With Alex Edler out with an injury, Troy Stecher becomes my top d man from Vancouver. On the season Stecher has 1 goal and 4 assists while averaging over 17 minutes of ice time per game, and has seen over 22 minutes per game two of the last three game.
