Manchester City beat Tottenham 1-0 in the Premier League on Monday, Oct. 29. Here are all the highlights from the match.

Manchester City moved back into first place in the Premier League table on Monday thanks to Riyad Mahrez’s early goal. Tottenham had their chances to get back in the game, but it was a well deserved win for Pep Guardiola’s side overall.

City took the lead in only the sixth minute thanks to some good play by Raheem Sterling and some very bad play by Kieran Trippier, who fluffed a routine header before getting beaten one-on-one by Sterling, who cut back for Mahrez to finish from close range.

Tottenham responded well, however, and could have had a couple of goals through Harry Kane, who went close with a long-range effort before getting tackled by Ederson when clean through on goal.

Benjamin Mendy looked shaky at left-back, and allowed Moussa Sissoko clean through midway through the half, but the Frenchman dallied on the ball and his weak cross was cut out by Fernandinho.

With some better decision making in the final third, Spurs easily could have gone into the break level, but City were the dominant side overall and probably deserved their lead. Sterling, David Silva and Mahrez were particularly impressive.

City did an excellent job killing the game after the break and had several good opportunities to extend their lead. Silva seemed certain to score from a couple of yards out, but couldn’t bring the ball under control and ended up passing.

Sergio Aguero also missed a good opportunity, hitting his shot too close to Hugo Lloris after getting played in by a nice ball from Silva. The Argentine had done well to cut inside Davinson Sanchez, but didn’t connect on his shot.

Tottenham should have punished City in the 80th minute, when Dele Alli dispossessed Riyad Mahrez before playing in Erik Lamela, who skied well over from 12 yards with no defenders near him.
