NBA Power Rankings: Are the Detroit Pistons for real?
By Ian Levy
The Celtics went undefeated this week, thanks in large part to some insanely suffocating defensive performances against the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Detroit Pistons. However, their offense has continued to look uneven and there is still a lot of work to be done at that end. In their two wins this week, the Celtics managed just 102.9 points per 100 possessions, a number that would almost certainly rank in the bottom third of the league if it was their final mark for the season.
For all their talent and depth, the Celtics just haven’t been able to capitalize on opportunities. They’re fifth in the league in potential assists per game but just 21st in actual assists. The Dallas Mavericks are the only team with a lower effective field goal percentage are shots where the closest defender is between four and six feet away from the shooter. At some point, those shots should start falling and the Celtics will bounce back towards the top of these rankings.
