Carson Palmer Division

16. Matthew Stafford (LW: 15)

Quarterback wins is, by and large, a wasteful stat. Players shouldn’t be judged on whether their teams win because that’s a collective endeavor, and a great player can be saddled with a bunch of nonsense around him. That said, Stafford puts up numbers, and his teams never beat quality opponents. Tough to be a top-1o quarterback when that’s your rap.

15. Alex Smith (LW: 17)

Staying with the aforementioned theme, Smith transcends the quarterback win stat. Everywhere Smith goes, the turnover rate decreases, and the victory rate increases. The Redskins were supposed to be an afterthought in the NFC East, and here we are, with Washington at 5-2 and leading the way.

14. Carson Wentz (LW: 11)

Wentz is putting up good numbers, but he hasn’t been the same player post ACL/LCL injury. The Eagles and their fans shouldn’t be worried, he’ll come around, but things have been progressing slowly on the film. Philadelphia needs Wentz to find himself if it wants to defend its crown into January.

13. Cam Newton (LW: 13)

Newton and the Panthers are putting together a really nice campaign. Through seven games, Carolina is 5-2 and the former Heisman Trophy winner has amassed 13 touchdowns while completing a career-high 66.4 percent of his throws.
