Treat: LSU has an offense
The LSU Tigers barely cracked the initial AP Top 25 poll coming into the 2018 season, sitting at 25th in the rankings. Though they have consistently produced NFL-caliber talent, LSU teams in recent years have had a fatal flaw — their offense. Much of that has undoubtedly stemmed from the lackluster play that they’ve endured at quarterback, but it had been consistent enough to call it a troubling trend.
When the Tigers landed Ohio State transfer Joe Burrow, however, the excitement that LSU might finally have something at quarterback started to grow. Even still, it was hard to fully buy in given the shortcomings on offense over the past few seasons. However, Burrow had come in and truly breathed new life into this team.
Make no mistake, this is a LSU team that still thrives off of what their defense is capable of. In their big win over the Georgia Bulldogs, the Tigers absolutely suffocated one of the best offenses in the country with the speed and talent they have on that side of the ball. Burrow’s presence and his impact on the offense as a whole, however, has made the biggest difference in helping push them into the top-four after nine weeks of the season.
This is a team that is no longer having to win games solely with defense. A just-fine defensive showing still has them in games because Burrow and the offense can actually put points on the board, and it’s been a refreshing sight to see this season as LSU is most definitely better than they’ve been in some time.
