Only a fews weeks into the season, Riverdale is taking its first break so that it avoids airing a new episode on Halloween. The show will be back on Nov. 7.
Just three episodes into the new season, it is time for Riverdale to take its first break. Luckily, this time around it is only for one week. With Halloween landing on a Wednesday this year, The CW wants to avoid airing the show on a night when it thinks most of the key demographic will not be watching TV.
The good news is that Netflix has the perfect show to fill the Riverdale void this week. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is now streaming. That show follows fellow Archie Comics character Sabrina Spellman as she navigates being half witch and half mortal.
It is adapted from a comic of the same name that was written by the creator of both Riverdale and Sabrina. And while it ultimately end up airing on Netflix, it is easy to see that Sabrina started its life as a spinoff of Riverdale.
The town of Greendale has the same feel as a town out of time just like Riverdale. Only it makes more sense on Sabrina where some of the characters are witches who have been alive for hundreds of years.
Of course the biggest similarity is that both shows feature characters that people know in all new and darker situations. The 1990s sitcom Sabrina never had to worry about signing her soul over to the devil. And there is a dynamic between Hilda and Zelda that never happened in the sitcom. Not to mention being on Netflix, Sabrina can dive deeper into the horror elements than if it was on network TV.
Once you have finished the 10-episode first season, Riverdale will be back with an all new episode. November 7 will be the flashback Breakfast Club-inspired episode that will see the younger cast playing their on-screen parents as teenagers.
It will be all about how the parents are connected to Griffins & Gargoyles. And the resemblance between the young cast now and what the older cast looked like as teens is impressive.
