NHL DFS Man Advantage Thursday November 1
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Thursday November 1st! With October in the rear view mirror the NHL ramps up for its second month of season. Tonight we have a gigantic 12 game slate on tap for Thursday. Since there so many games I am going to try to make my article a little easier and more streamlined than breaking down a bunch of games. I would rather sift through the games for you and point out the players and lines to use as your core for your lineups.
With so many games on the slate there are 24 options to use in net and I will try to give you a few for your cash game lineups and then give my usual GPP option rankings. I will go through the 12 games and pick out some the best players in each tier and then lastly the top lines to focus on for staking, either full stacks or mini stacks.
NHL DFS Goalies
On this big slate my top goaltender for the evening is Colorado Avalanche starter and second in the league with a 1.62 GAA, Semyon Varlamov. Varly is having one of his best seasons of his career this year and gets a matchup with the Calgary Flames on Thursday. Besides being 2nd in GAA he also has a league best .950 SV% (among qualified goalies).
John Gibson is my next choice for goaltender on Thursday as he hosts the Rangers. Gibson sat out the Ducks last game on Tuesday against Philly, so he should definitely get the nod on Thursday. Gibson has seen his GAA start to climb of late to a 2.44, but his SV% has still stayed around a very respectable .938. The Rangers beat the Sharks in a shootout Tuesday night 4-3 and have been scoring at a much higher rate then they were earlier in the season but they are on the 4th game of a west coast swing and come out slow and tired against the Ducks.
New Jersey takes on the NHL punching bags, the Detroit Red Wings. If Keith Kinkaid gets the start on Thursday, and it seems like he will, he is a good cash option against one of the leagues worst and lowest scoring teams. On the season Kinkaid has hit a little bit of a skid of late which has seen his GAA and SV% dipped but a matchup with the Red Wings could be what he needs to get right.
If Pekka Rinne gets the start on Thursday against the Lightning he would be an interesting option. Before getting injured Rinne was playing exceptionally well for the Preds and while the matchup isn’t ideal his price is. He is only $7.8K which is under priced for Rinne. If Saros continues to start then I would be off the goalies in this game for cash.
NHL DFS GPP Rankings
1- Anton Khudobin (Dal) – This is solely based on his $6.8 price tag
2- Brian Elliot (Phi)
3- Henrik Lundquist (NYR)
4- Marc-Andre Fleury (VGK)
5- Craig Anderson (OTT)
NHL DFS Top Players – 11/1
Top Tier:
Evgeni Malkin ($7.8K) – Malkin has been on fire to start the year with 19 points on the season. Geno has at least a point in 8 straight, goals in back to back games, and 6 multipoint games in the first 10 this season. Do you need any other reasons to play him? Malkin and his linemates ( Phil Kessel and Carl Hagelin) have scored 11 goals when on the ice together, which is second in the league.
Kyle Palmieri ($7.4K) – Palmieri has been a pleasant surprise for the Devils this season with 9 goals in his first 9 games and averaging 6.1 FPPG. Playing on a line with reigning Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall and Nico Hischier, Palmieri has a great matchup with the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday to continue his hot start.
Brent Burns ($6.5K) – Brent Burns has finally started to play like Brent Burns on late with 3 goals in his last 6. Burns was kept off the score sheet in the first 3 games but he has a point now in the 9 games since and has 5 multipoint games in that stretch as well. Burns is actually under priced at $6,500 in my opinion so you should take advantage of his pricing before he goes back over $7K.
Mid Tier:
Tomas Hertl ($5.9K)- Tomas Hertl has been one of the hottest players in the league right now. Over his last 5 games Hertl is averaging over 6 FPPG and has 3 goals and 6 assists in those games. Playing on a line with Logan Couture and Timo Meier he make a great one-off or as stack as I think the Sharks score a bunch against the Blue Jackets on Thursday.
Steven Stamkos ($5.3K) – I cannot remember a time when Stamer was this low-priced, but here we are. Stamkos is starting to heat up and is back playing with Nikita Kucherov and JT Miller. Over his last 4 games Stamkos has a goal and 4 assists and is averaging ovr 3 FPPG in that same stretch.
Roman Josi ($5.1K)- Josi has been very consistent throughout the entire season and has a nice floor that you want in cash games. He is averaging just under 4 FPPG in his last 5 and has 3 assists over that stretch
Value Tier:
Dustin Brown ($4.8K) – Brown has only played one game on the season but he did score a pp goal and played over 22 minutes in that one game this past Sunday. He is right back on the first line playing with Anze Kopitar and Alex Iafallo.
Jordan Eberle ($4.2)- Eberle scored 2 goals on Tuesday against the Penguins and it seems that he starting to heat up. Eberle has 3 goals on the season, all 3 coming in his last 4 games and is averaging over 4 FPPG in that stretch.
Brady Skjei ($3.6K)- Skjei and the Rangers have seemingly found their offensive legs recently scoring 15 goals in their last 4 and while Skjei hasn’t scored, he has contributed in other ways. Skjei has 3 assists over their last 4, averaging just under 4 FPPG in the last 4 as well with 8 SOG and 7 blocked shots.
NHL DFS Line Stacks
Colorado 1 – Mikko Rantanen – Nathan Mackinnon – Gabriel Landeskog – This is arguably the best line in hockey. They lead the NHL in total TOI as a line, and most goals scored together with 12. If they are on a slate, I am playing this line.

Pittsburgh 1 – Jake Guentzel – Sidney Crosby – Dominick Simon. This line played together for the first time this season on Tuesday and scored twice against the same Islander team they play on Thursday
Dallas 1 – Justin Dowling – Tyler Seguin – Alexander Radulov. Dallas has decided to split Seguin and Benn up, let’s see how this experiment works.
Buffalo 1 – Jeff Skinner – Jack Eichel – Jason Pominville. This line consists of the top three scorers on the Sabres, so it only makes sense to play this line against Ottawa
Ottawa 2 – Alex Formenton – Chris Tierney – Bobby Ryan. Tierney is playing exceptionally well right now and anyone playing with him is a great option.
Toronto PP 1 – John Tavares – Nazem Kadri – Patrick Marleau – Morgan Rielly – Mitch Marner. I want exposure to both of Toronto’s two top lines if I am using them and this is the best way to do so by using 2-3 guys from their top PP unit
Washington 2 – Andre Burakowsky – Nicklas Backstrom – TJ Oshie. You can really use either top line from Washington, but this line should be the pivot to get Washington exposure in GPP’s.
