Legacies season 1, episode 2 live stream: Watch online

The newest spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, Legacies, continues on Thursday night with episode 2, “Some People Just Want to Watch the World Burn.” Here’s how to watch the episode online.

Legacies is just diving straight into its own story and has yet to take some time to to explain the backstories of most of the characters. If you watch The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, you know what has happened to four of the main characters. But if Legacies is your first look at TVD franchise, you are kind of getting dropped in mid story. So, this will be a quick overview the characters’ histories pre-Legacies.

Starting things off is the adult on the show, Alaric Saltzman. He first shows up is season 1 on TVD as the new history teacher and vampire hunter. He has been through a lot. Died a few times, became a super vampire (thanks to Hope’s grandmother), died again.

After coming back to life in season 6, he meets Jo, a doctor and Gemini witch. They fall in love and are going to start a family. Too bad she has an evil twin brother named Kai who kills all of the other Gemini witches at Jo and Alaric’s wedding, including Jo.

To make sure the Gemini coven survives, Jo’s unborn twins are magically moved into Caroline Forbes. She gives birth to Lizzie and Josie Saltzman during season 7 of TVD. Caroline decides to help raise the girls with Alaric becoming their adopted mother.

Lizzie and Josie are powerful witches who are rare syphons like their Uncle Kai. They gain their magic by taking it from people and objects. And they are the last of the powerful Gemini coven.

That is why as toddlers, they are targeted by Cade, basically this universe’s version of the devil, to be his new minions. They are saved by their parents who eventually open the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted to give them a safe place to learn how to control their powers.

Prior to Legacies, they are seen as 13-year-olds during The Originals season 5, episode 12. Klaus asks Caroline if the twins can help save Hope, who was dying because of an evil spirit called The Hollow.

Which brings us to Hope Mikaelson. She is the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson, the first hybrid werewolf/vampire and Hayley, a werewolf. Because Hope’s grandmother was a witch, Hope is also a witch along with being a werewolf and having vampire blood in her veins, making her the first and only tri-bred.

Her mother dies in childbirth, but Hope’s blood brings her mother back to life as a hybrid. As an infant, she has to be saved from being raised by an evil great aunt. When Hope is eight, she gets infected by an evil spirit known as The Hollow. Her vampire family members (Klaus, uncles Kol and Elijah, and aunt Rebekah) split The Hollow between them. As a result, they can’t be in the same place without causing the end of the world.

For the next seven years, Hope is raised by her mother and Aunt Freya, who is also a super powerful witch. She starts going to school at the Salvatore School. But she is not allowed to see her father.

This leads to the events of the final season of The Originals. In short, Hayley is killed by Elijah, who loves her, but at this point doesn’t remember who he is. Hope takes The Hollow back so her family can be reunited. It starts to kill her, so Klaus takes it on. He kills himself to end its power, and Elijah can’t live with the guilt of killing Hayley so he decides to die with his brother.

So, two years later, when Legacies begins, Hope is dealing with the loss of all those family members. Lizzie’s volatile powers are coming from her uncle, the man who killed his entire family. Oh, and the twin’s mother, Caroline, not being around this season will become a part of the show.
