Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is going on in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any updated information you need to know.
Fortnite Friday is a weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multiplayer showdown game, Fortnite: Battle Royale. This week marks the end of Fortnitemares, Epic Games’ fun, Halloween-altered version of the game.
There are going to be a lot of cosmetic changes to the game this week, as everything Halloween will shift to the next big holiday: Christmas. Fully expect to start seeing Christmas-themed skins, map changes and other goodies as we near closer to December.
Before we get into any of that, here are the challenges from week 6:
Free challenges
- Place chillers in different matches (0/3)
- Search a chest in different named locations (0/7)
- Shotgun eliminations (0/3)
These three challenges are probably the easiest grouping of free challenges this season. Chiller traps aren’t particularly dangerous to opposing players, but it is funny to watch players slide around with ice-block feet.
Battle pass challenges
- Stage 1: Land at Shifty Shafts (0/1)
- Deal damage with a pickaxe to opponents (0/250)
- Stage 1: Find the sheet music in Pleasant Park (0/1)
- Stage 2: Play the sheet music at the piano near Pleasant Park (0/1)
- Stage 3: Find the sheet music in Retail Row (0/1)
- Stage 4: Play the sheet music at the piano near Retail Row (0/1)
- Stage 1: Elimination with a common weapon (0/1)
Dealing damage with pickaxes is a season staple and usually a lot of funny. Players frantically pickaxing each other at Tilted Towers to collect as much damage as possible each match. Having redeploying gliders is a game changer for escaping these attacks now.
The landing and elimination staged challenges aren’t new or particularly difficult. You should have no problem chipping away at these. The final staged challenge is a progression through the weapons. It goes: common (grey), uncommon (green), rare (blue), epic (purple) and legendary (orange).
The sheet music challenge is a totally new one. Here is a very detailed description of how to complete the stages, but essentially you are finding the sheet music then playing it on the piano in two locations.
The first sheet music can be found in the red brick house on the north side of Pleasant. The piano is on the mountain west of pleasant. The sheet music at Retail can be found in the southeast blacktop building, two doors up from the water tower. The piano is located at the cliff’s edge, southeast of Retail.
While this challenge does not pertain to the game in any way, it’s fun and different, so let’s give it a shot. It’s also a million times better than the idiotic “hit a player with a tomato from 15m away” challenge earlier this season (is it obvious I haven’t gotten this done yet?).
Here’s a map of the four locations:

Fortnitemares
The ridiculously fun Halloween version of Fortnite is ending on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1:00 p.m. There will be an in-game event at that time, so be sure to hop on and get into a match to watch it. Chances are, it’ll wrap up the whole cube/monsters storyline. Bye Kevin!
If you haven’t yet completed all of your Fortnitemares challenges, you have until Sunday to do so. You don’t have to complete every one to get the dark engine glider, so skip over the more difficult ones and just shoot a bunch of cube monsters.
There’s no word yet on whether or not the newly introduced weapons will remain in the game, however there is a good chance the crossbow disappears again as it was likely only reintroduced to quietly take out cube monsters.
Fortnite Update v6.21 patch notes
Three weapons vaulted: Three weapons were vaulted on Nov. 1. One that should have been, one that no one cared about and one that is an absolute travesty.
The guided missiles return to the vault, which is where they belong. Semi-automatic snipers were less popular after being nerfed in both power and rarity, so no one was carrying these anyway. What hurts the most is losing the dual pistols (or dualies) as these were probably the best introduced weapon in recent memory. No clue why they would vault these, as everyone seemed to love them.
Balloons: You may have noticed the purple balloon packages turning up all over the map recently. The balloons are a new addition to the game that allow you to defy gravity as you inflate more and more balloons. We’re still undecided on the value of these, but as you can see in the promo video, they can be useful.

Other notables: Glider re-deploy seems like it will be sticking around, which is nice, as it adds a new element to the game. Explosive damage was briefly buffed to hurt players through walls, but after receiving nothing but backlash, it’s been switched back.

Elimination of the week
This is wild. The EOTW this week comes from FaZe Avery (@Avxry) who’s very creative victory royale went viral last week. Check out this mid-air rift/trap elimination. Wow.
