Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester United: Premier League highlights and recap
By Adam Stocker
Manchester United beat Bournemouth 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday, Nov. 3. Here are all the highlights from the match.
Marcus Rashford scored in second-half stoppage time as Manchester United came from behind to beat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Vitality on Saturday, and move up to seventh place in the Premier League table.
Bournemouth started excellently, and could have had three goals early on. Callum Wilson played in Ryan Frazier in the fourth minute, but Frazier’s first touch was sloppy and his shot was easily saved by David de Gea.
Wilson himself could only poke the ball at de Gea from close range minutes later, before Junior Stanislas missed the best the chance of the three, skewing wide unmarked in the area after more good play from Frazier.
Stanislas’ shot, however, led to the corner from which Bournemouth took the lead. After the initial ball was cleared, Lewis Cook picked out Stanislas with a lovely through ball. Stanislas’ cross was tapped in from close range by Wilson.
It took over 30 minutes, but United eventually began to establish some consistent possession, and should have equalized through Fred in the 33rd minute, only for the Brazilian to mishit his shot.
United did get their goal two minutes later. Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez combined well on the right, before Alexis picked out Martial, who finished for his fifth goal in his last four Premier League matches.
The second half was more open. David Brooks almost scored for Bournemouth within five minutes of the restart, but was denied by an excellent de Gea save, before Asmir Begovic smothered Luke Shaw’s effort.
The best chance of the half came in the 64th minute, when Ashley Young rattled the bar from a free-kick, Nathan Ake blocked Rashford’s follow up and then Brooks cleared Paul Pogba’s attempt off the line.
The match seemed headed for a draw until the second minute of stoppage, when Pogba beat Steve Cook down Bournemouth’s right and picked out Rashford, who took a touch before finishing from close range.
