The College Football Playoff rankings will have a new team in the top four after LSU lost, but will it be Michigan or Georgia who moves in the top four?

We are in the home stretch of the college football season and the College Football Playoff picture is taking shape. Saturday was full of big-time games, but none bigger than No. 1 Alabama traveling to Baton Rouge to face No. 3 LSU.

LSU’s defense came out swarming, putting plenty of pressure on Tagovailoa and forcing a punt on the opening possession. That’s where the good things for LSU ended as the Crimson Tide won 29-0 to eliminate LSU from Playoff contention. Alabama will strengthen their position as the top team in the nation, but with LSU’s loss, an opening is there for either Michigan or Georgia to snag.

Projected College Football Playoff rankings after Week 10

1. Alabama Crimson Tide

LSU was by far the best team they have faced all season and it resulted in a 29-0 win and LSU never really tested Alabama after the opening possession. It wasn’t Tua Tagovailoa’s best night as he threw his first interception of the year, but it was also a game most any other quarterback would love to have. Tagovailoa threw for 295 yards for two touchdowns and had a 44-yard touchdown run. He threw his first interception of the year, which was the lone blemish from this game.

Alabama hosts Mississippi State next weekend.

2. Clemson Tigers

While Alabama had a dominant defensive performance vs. LSU, Clemson had the most dominant overall game this weekend. Clemson beat Louisville 77-16 and had three ball carriers run for more than 100 yards. They even had defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence run for a score and coach Dabo Swinney’s son, Will, even caught a touchdown pass late. Clemson travels to Boston College next week and College GameDay will be in attendance to see if there is an upset brewing.

3. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Notre Dame traveled a short distance to face Northwestern in what many thought could be a potential upset. It looked like it was a possibility early with the two tied at 7 at halftime. Notre Dame tried to run away with it in the third quarter, but Northwestern wouldn’t quit. It was a seven-point game in the final three minutes before Ian Book ran in a touchdown to ice it. Book completed 23 of 34 passes for 343 yards and three total touchdowns.

The Irish host the sputtering Florida State Seminoles next week.

4. Michigan Wolverines

With LSU out, Michigan moves in after their 42-7 win over Penn State. After losing to Notre Dame in the opener, the Wolverines have been one of the four best teams in the nation. Karan Higdon ran for more than 100 yards for the seventh straight game and the Michigan defense showed why many consider them the best unit in the nation.

Michigan faces Rutgers on the road next week.
