College football scores, Week 10: Takeaways for every Top 25 team
Statement Saturday lived up to the billing so catch up with all the college football scores from Week 10 and the biggest takeaways from every Top 25 team.
Alabama proved again why they are the No. 1 team in the nation and they could be headed for another instant classic with Clemson in the National Championship Game. The top two teams in the country had dominant showings in wins over LSU and Louisville for totally different reasons. Alabama beat LSU 29-0 as the defense had their best showing of the year. Meanwhile, Clemson scored a staggering 77 points against a Louisville team that had no answers for what Dabo Swinney was offering.
As impressive as those wins were, the performances from Michigan against Penn State, West Virginia against Texas and Georgia against Kentucky add to the drama that came from Week 10, otherwise known as Statement Saturday.
Takeaways for every Top 25 team after Week 10
1. Alabama (W 29-0 LSU) – For the first time all year, Alabama didn’t score a touchdown on their opening possession. It was all downhill for LSU after that as Tua Tagovailoa threw for two and ran for a touchdown in the win in Death Valley.
2. Clemson (W 77-16 LOU) – Quarterback Trevor Lawrence was coming off a pair of 300-yard passing performances, but the freshman relied on the ground game as the Tigers scored 11 times, including a rushing score by defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and a receiving score from Will Swinney, son of head coach Dabo Swinney. How cool is that?
3. LSU (L 29-0 AL) – Tigers allowed 281 rushing yards while running for 12. LSU had negative yards into the second half as they lost to Alabama for the eighth straight year. Their playoff hopes are over.
4. Notre Dame (W 31-21 NU) – Ian Book’s 23-yard touchdown run with 2:45 served as the final score to pull away from Northwestern. Book threw for 343 yards and two touchdowns with Chase Clayfield having a game-high eight catches for 130 yards. Notre Dame sacked Clayton Thorson five times.
5. Michigan (42-7 Penn St) – Karan Higdon ran for 132 yards, his seventh straight game with at least 100 yards. Shea Patterson (3 touchdowns) is getting better every week because the offense runs through the senior back. Wolverines defense held Penn State scoreless until the final 1:59 and 2-11 on third down.
