After 10 games, Manchester City are tied with Liverpool for first in the Premier League with 26 points. The Citizens have yet to lose a game and are continuing their dominance under Pep Guardiola. On Sunday, City host Southampton at Etihad Stadium. The Saints are just above the relegation zone, picking up only seven points in their first 10 games.
The Citizens continued their undefeated start to the season, beating Tottenham 1-0 on a Riyad Mahrez goal. The clean sheet was City’s six straight and seventh of the season. At Etihad Stadium this season, City have been unbelievable. Pep Guardiola’s side have scored 18 goals in five home games. Sergio Aguero leads the club with six goals this season, the same number of goals that Southampton have scored this season.
Southampton have not scored a goal in five games. Given their inability to score goals, it is somewhat surprising that the Saints have picked up two points over that stretch. Southampton’s inability to score goals could lead to Mark Hughes being fired. Last season, Stoke fired Hughes part way through the season but were still relegated. The Saints could be doomed for relegation if they do not start scoring goals and winning games. Danny Ings leads the club with three goals and will continue to be the target in the middle for Southampton. Against a tough City defense, the Saints goalless run could move to six games.
