NHL DFS Man Advantage Monday November 5 2018
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Monday night November 5th! Tonight is a 5 game slate in the NHL. We have the Penguins trying to end a 3 game skid hosting the Devils trying to end their own 3 game skid. Edmonton comes across the border to tangle with Ovi and the Caps and in the lone late game Philly continues its west coast swing with a game against the hottest team in hockey (Islander fans may think otherwise), the Arizona Coyotes .
It is nice to have small slate with such an abundance of talented players to use, but you can’t use them all. In today’s article I will give you my favorite plays from this slate along with some of the best line stacks to use, but as always we start with our top goalies to use.
NHL DFS Goalies
Tonight’s top goalie play is Antti Raanta as he and the red-hot Coyotes take on the Flyers. Raanta is making an early case as a Vezina front-runner this season with his .929 SV% and 2.10 GAA. Philly comes into the game tonight losing 4 of 6 and scored one goal or less in 3 of the 4 losses. They are also on their last game of a 4 game west coast road trip. If Darcy Kuemper starts instead of Raanta I am ok starting him still. He has good numbers in a small sample size so far with a 2-1 record, 1.34 GAA , and a .957 SV%
I haven’t seen who the Islanders are starting on Monday but whoever does end up between the pipes I like as my second option in net. Both Robin Lehner and Thomas Greiss have been playing exceptionally well of late during the Islanders 5 game win streak. Greiss started Saturday night and shut out the Devils so it would seem like it would be Lehner’s turn in net on Monday. Lehner comes in sporting 4-2 record to go with a .928 SV% and 2.45 GAA. If Greiss gets his second straight his numbers are better than Lehner with a .944 SV% and a 1.85 GAA.
My last choice on this slate for goalies is Jaroslav Halak if he starts for Boston against Dallas. If we find out that Tukka Rask is starting then he becomes a good GPP option but I don’t trust him in cash games personally.
NHL DFS Top Individual Players
Top Tier:
Connor McDavid ($7.8K)- I don’t need to sell on McDavid, he’s good and if you watch hockey at all you know that. He has points in 7 straight games (5G-5A). Washington has lost 3 of 4, including a 4-1 loss to the Oilers last week, and has given up 17 goals in those 4 games.
Evgeni Malkin ($7.1K)- Pittsburgh comes in losing 3 straight and is in need a of a win. Malkin has played well in the three loses and should continue you to do so on Monday. Over the 3 game losing streak Malkin has 4 goals and an assist.
Anders Lee ($6.7K)- On the other end of the spectrum we have the Islanders who have won 5 straight and Anders Lee has been a big part of it with 3 goals and 5 assists over the 5 game win streak. The Islanders top line of Lee, Brock Nelson, and Josh Bailey is also a good stack that won’t break the bank.
Mid Tier:
Clayton Keller ($5.5K)- Keller is one of the hottest players on one of the hottest teams in the league right now. Keller has points in 4 straight and 6 of 7 with 5 goals over this stretch. Keller plays on the Coyotes top line with Alex Galchenyuk and Richard Panik. I would go with a mini stack here with Keller and Galchenyuk if you were interested in stacking Keller.
Jamie Benn ($5.8K)- I don’t remember a time when Benn was priced so low, it certainly wasn’t this year. Benn has 2 goals and an assist during the Stars 3 game win streak in which they have scored 10 goals. Benn is now on the Stars second line with Jason Spezza and Valeri Nichushkin.
Sami Vatanen ($5.5K)- Vatanen is the Devils top D man and is playing on the top D pair along with playing on the 2nd PP unit. Over the last 5 games Vatanen has averaged 4.2 FPPG and has 1 goal and 2 assists in those 5 games as well.
Value Tier:
Drake Caggiula ($4.9K)- When doing these top player picks I don’t like to use players from the same line but on a small slate sometimes I don’t have a choice. Caggiula has been hot since he got put with McDavid last week and has 3 goals in the last 2 games for the Oilers. Unfortunately Caggiula doesn’t play PP minutes, but that may change if he keep scoring like he has been.
Travis Zajac ($4.3K)- Over their 3 game losing streak Zajac has been playing well despite the losses. Zajac has 1 goal and 3 assists in the last 4 games and is averaging 3.5 FPPG. Zajac centers both the Devils 2nd line with Miles Wood and Marcu Johansson and the 2nd PP unit.
Jordan Oesterle($3.6K)- Oesterle is not a big upside d man and this is mainly a GPP dart or a cash game punt because of his price. Over his last 3 games Oesterle has scored 1 goal and is averging 3 FPPG and also has 10 blocked shots the last 3 as well.
NHL DFS Top Line Stacks
Boston 1 – David Pastrnak – Patrice Bergeron – Brad Marchand : Boston hasn’t been scoring too many goals of late, getting shut out in 2 of their last 3 games. The Bruins need to start scoring and it will be this line who does it.

New Jersey 1 – Taylor Hall – Nico Hischier – Kyle Palmieri: This line has been the best line for the Devils all season and will continue to be. They are an expensive stack but the Penguins have been giving up a lot of goals of late and the Devils are hoping it continues on Monday.
Washington 3 – Dimitrij Jaskin – Lars Eller – Brett Connolly: Obviously the Caps top two lines are the best options but they are also some of the highest priced players on the slate. If you want exposure to one of the highest projected games on the slate this is the best way to get it. Both Eller and Connolly have been playing extremely well and won’t break the bank.
Pittsburgh 1 – Dominik Simon – Sidney Crosby – Jake Guentzel : Pittsburgh was shut out on Saturday and Crosby has been held pointless in two straight. I think the Pens score a few on New Jersey on Monday, and Crosby and his linemates get involved.
