After three games, Liverpool are first in Group C with six points, one point ahead of Napoli and two points ahead of Paris Saint-Germain. In the third game of the group stage, PSG required a late goal from Angel Di Maria to steal a point from Napoli. On Tuesday, the two clubs play at San Paolo Stadium with major implications for the group.
Napoli smoked Empoli 5-1 over the weekend to remain six points behind Juventus in the Serie A title race. Lorenzo Insigne scored one and Dries Mertens scored a hat-trick, giving both players seven goals in Serie A this season. The two players also scored against PSG and will lead the line for Napoli. Marek Hamsik did not play against Empoli and will be fresh for the reverse fixture against PSG. The Slovakian playmaker will play a large role in midfield, creating chances for Mertens and Insigne.
PSG continued their perfect start to the Ligue 1 season, winning their 12th game in a row. Thomas Tuchel’s side defeated second-place Lille 2-1 despite being without Edison Cavani, who is nursing a hamstring injury. Cavani spent three years with Napoli, scoring more than 100 goals in all competitions before signing with PSG. The Uruguay international likely would have received a warm reception but it is unclear if he will be able to play. If Cavani does not play, Tuchel will start Angel Di Maria, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar in the front three and insert Julian Draxler into the starting XI.
