NHL DFS Man Advantage Wednesday November 7th 2018
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Wednesday night November 7th! This is a small 3 game slate with one massive early game between the last 3 winners of the Stanley Cup when Crosby and the Penguins head to the nation’s capital to take on Ovi and the Capitals.
We have a good goaltending NHL DFS match-up in Colorado when Nashville comes to town, and the last game of the night Calgary heads to Anaheim to take on the Ducks who are on the second night of a back to back.
Obviously the Penguins have been in a rut and have only scored 1 goal in their last 2 games but for some reason the Capitals always bring out the best in the Penguins offense. With Colorado and Nashville it could be a very low scoring game, and Calgary could get Ryan Miller in net against them which could make their offense a big play on Wednesday.
NHL DFS Goalies
Mike Smith is the top option in my opinion on this slate based on Smith having the best chance at the win. I don’t ever like to play a goalie in a Pittsburgh/Washington game because it is usually ends up with a score in then 5-4 range.
Smith hasn’t had a great season, but he gets a Ducks team that hasn’t scored more than 3 goals since October 17th (not including Tuesday nights game). Both Pekka Rinne and Semyon Varlamov are having great starts to the season but I personally like to save the cash to spend up on Penguins and Capitals and take Smith at $7.4K.
NHL DFS Top Plays and Stacks
When looking over this small slate you will notice that there is only one game that should be high scoring and be a focus of NHL DFS for Wednesday night. Pittsburgh travels to Washington on Wednesday night for a playoff rematch and that is where I will be focusing my lineup builds for Wednesday. I will be looking for value with Calgary and some from Nashville and Colorado but the bulk of my cash will be spending up for the top guys from this game.
From Pittsburgh I am actually looking at their 3rd line as a stack if that’s what you are looking for. Coach Sullivan has shuffled the lines after Mondays game and now has Jake Guentzel, Riley Sheahan, and Phil Kessel.
Pittsburgh has even split up Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on the PP, with Malkin on the first unit and Crosby centering the second unit. Dominik Simon is still playing with Crosby on the first line and the second PP unit.
Using Bryan Rust is a good play with since he is playing with Crosby on line 1 and with Geno on the 1st PP unit. On the point for the Pens the best play is Kris Letang, but you can also get Jamie Oleksiak for $1700 less then Letang and get similar production (4 goals and 4 assists ).
Washington has also made some line changes, and I like the Caps new top line. Dmitrij Jaskin has joined Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov on the 1st line. While they made an adjustment to the top line the Caps left their first PP unit in tact leaving Ovi and Kuznetsov with Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie.
I like playing either the top line guys with Backstrom or Oshie for exposure to the top two lines plus first PP unit. For defensemen only really John Carlson has been performing offensively with 5 goals and 11 assists, but in his last 5 games Carlson only has 3 assists.

Looking to find some value I am looking to Mikael Backlund from Calgary at $4.6K centering the Flames second line and on the second PP unit as well. Backlund has 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 2 games. For value on Calgary’s blue line, Noah Hanifin has been playing well of late. He has 2 assists in the last two games and is averaging over 2 shots on goal per game.
When it comes to a game that has the potential to be the lowest scoring on the slate, Colorado’s top line is definitely a place to go in GPP’s to find potential points that may be forgotten because of the Pens/Caps match-up.
For Nashville, it is their top line as well that could be a source of points with Filip Forsberg, Ryan Johansen, and Kevin Fiala. For Nashville’s PP you can roll out Forsberg and Johansen with Calle Jarnkrok who was 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 5 games.
