After 11 games, Southampton are near the bottom of the Premier League table with only seven points. The Saints look like a team that will be battling for survival at the end of the season. On Saturday, Southampton host Watford at St. Mary’s Stadium. The Hornets are off to a surprisingly good start, picking up 18 points and sitting sixth.
Southampton lost 6-1 to Manchester City last weekend and have not won a game since Sept. 1. The biggest problem for the Saints has been their inability to score goals consistently. The Saints have scored only seven goals this season and have been held without a goal in six games. Danny Ings scored against City, giving him a team-best four goals this season.
Watford lost 1-0 to Newcastle last weekend. The Hornets promising start is over. Watford won their first four games this season but have only seven points in their last seven games. The Hornets hope the return of captain Troy Deeney will help them get back on track. Deeney has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury. Watford are more effective when Deeney and Andre Gray play together leading the attack with Roberto Pereyra. The Argentina international is having a career year, leading Watford with five goals this season.
