FanDuel NBA GPP Breakdown
Hello again and welcome back to the Monday edition of the FanDuel NBA GPP Breakdown. I’m “Thunder Dan” and I love FanDuel NBA DFS more than Joanie loves Chachi (many of you won’t get that reference, meaning I’m getting OLD)
All kidding aside, my goal every day is to give you my top targets every night for GPP contests for FanDuel NBA. When making these picks I always take into account salary, ownership, and match-up and I always do my best to give you a clear rationale for why I believe each player makes an elite GPP target.
"On this Veterans’ Day, I just want to take a minute to thank all of you who have served or continue to serve our country. We wouldn’t have the opportunity to obsess over sports in this country if it weren’t for the protection provided by our military."
We have a pretty solid 9-game slate tonight for a Monday. I’ll continue to go position by position instead of game-by-game, especially on these larger slates. You really have to narrow your player pool, you can’t play everyone. I try to give 2-3 options at each position and some cheaper “value” options to consider as well. Finally, I always include my “Game Stack of Night” which is my favorite game to target with multiple players from both teams.
Remember, this is a first look article that is intended to get you pointed in the right direction with your research. We’re still waiting for a number of Vegas totals to come in and there’s some injury news that will need to be monitored throughout the day. Always make sure you monitoring Twitter for player updates or getting those push notifications to your phone.
Without any further ado, let’s get into the picks!
FanDuel NBA GPP Breakdown: Point Guards
*****I’m not writing up Derrick Rose (6900) or Quinn Cook (5400) who are likely some chalky cash game options with the Timberwolves and Warriors likely being shorthanded. If Curry is out then fire up Cook. And Rose is getting pricey for his upside, too. Here are some guys who will likely be lower-owned than the chalk.
John Wall (10200)
Wall is back up over 10k, which I think will prevent people from playing him with a number of solid, cheaper options today. Heck, I don’t even really want to pay 10k for John Wall…or maybe I do. He’s played 40+ minutes in three straight games as the Wizards are struggling badly early on this season and have no choice but to play him huge minutes
He’s averaging over 50 FanDuel points over his last four games and gets another sweet matchup here tonight with Orlando, the same spot he put up 51.4 in just last Friday night. I think he’s one of the few options at the position with this type of ceiling. Pay up for him to be contrarian.
Mike Conley (7900)
After doing a disappearing act for three straight games, Mike Conley resurfaced in a major way against the Sixers on Saturday night, dropping a 53.8 FanDuel point outing and scoring 32 real-life points. He’s under 8k here tonight against Utah in a matchup that most people will avoid, but consider that he’s already put up 44 and 45 FanDuel points against them this year. He’s got a healthy 28% usage this year and Ricky Rubio is no match for him defensively, I love him to go for 6x value on this price tonight.
Value: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (5000), Patrick Beverley (4800), Jerian Grant (4300), Ryan Arcidiacono (4200)
FanDuel NBA GPP Breakdown: Shooting Guards
*****Chalk Alert: Dennis Schroeder (7200) against Phoenix with Westy out? Yes, but he will be popular and has failed to show a really high ceiling at his now elevated price. Here’s where we pivot.
Devin Booker (7500)
This price is just too tempting to pass up on for a player of Booker’s caliber. He got a price reduction after his sub-par outing against the Pelicans but is only one game removed from a 58 FanDuel point outburst against the Celtics. He’s always a great GPP play with his ability to score and rack up assists and steals.
I like Phoenix to keep this game close as the Thunder will be without Russell Westbrook again tonight. Booker has a ridiculous 30-5-4 average against OKC in his last 5 meetings with them and I think you have to lock him in your lineups tonight just in case he decides to break the slate.
Terrance Ross (4600)
I don’t often write-up a guy under 5k as one of my two main picks, but it’s hard not to love Ross in this spot tonight. He’s really come on for Orlando and been solid as their sixth man off the bench. He’s playing minutes in the high 20’s despite being a reserve and being productive with those minutes, averaging 16 real-life points per game over his last 5. He’s attempting nearly 7 three-pointers per game and averaging over a steal per game. It’s hard not to love his upside against the defensively challenged Wizards tonight.
Value: Josh Okogie (4500), Wayne Ellington (3900)
FanDuel NBA GPP Breakdown: Small Forwards
*****You don’t need me to tell you that Kevin Durant (11200) and Paul George (10300) are elite plays with Curry and Westy out, but they are expensive and will be popular. Here’s who’s getting overlooked.
Kawhi Leonard (9400)
Man, I really love this game between Toronto and New Orleans tonight. We don’t have a line or a spread for this game yet, but I would expect Toronto to a single-digit favorite at home and the total to come in pretty high.
Leonard might have the absolute best matchup of anyone on the slate as small forward is the best position to attack the Pelicans defense. His price dropped at just the right time and we need to exploit the savings he offers from Durant and PG13. Kawhi has put up 27-6-6 with 2 steals over his last two games against the Pelicans and I expect him to go absolutely nuts in this spot tonight. 50+ FanDuel points incoming, book it!
T.J. Warren (5800)
This might feel like chasing points at first glance, but I don’t think it is. The last two games “TJ Buckets” is doing what he does best – get buckets! He’s averaging 27 real-life points over his last two games and he’s actually better with Booker in the lineup than without him (one of those weird situations where you DON’T play him when Booker is out, but fire him up when he’s in).
People might worry about Paul George defense, but he’s not going to be able to guard Warren AND Booker and Warren should get some run with the second unit while George is off the floor. It’s hard not to want to roster a guy under 6k who you know can score 30 real-life points in a game, and I like this OKC-Phoenix game a lot tonight.
Value: Jeff Green (4000), OG Anunoby (3900)
FanDuel NBA GPP Breakdown: Power Forwards
*****I’m likely not paying 12200 for Anthony Davis tonight, even though I do love that game. He’s obviously capable of a massive outing, but I think I’d rather play a different Pelican in my lineups for a lot less (more on that, soon!)
Serge Ibaka (6600)
I’ll keep this one short. Serge should get the majority of run tonight at center for the Raptors as I think Jonas Valanciunas is likely going to be left on the bench for long stretches. The Pelicans like to run and play small and this matchup favors Ibaka. His skill set is perfect for what the Raps need tonight, perimeter shooting and interior defense against Anthony Davis. He’s too cheap for his upside with 30+ minutes.
Montrezl Harrell (6500)
Harrell is in a similar situation as Ibaka in that the Clippers are likely going to have to match Golden State’s lineups and go small (that means no Boban, sorry). He’s playing minutes in the high 20’s or low 30’s and this type of up-tempo game against the Warriors is the perfect environment for Harrell. I think he’s looking at 30+ minutes which would give him the opportunity to smash this price and go for 40+ FanDuel points.
Value: Maxi Kleber (3700), Jonas Jerebko (3700 – if Draymond is out)
FanDuel NBA GPP Breakdown: Centers
Karl-Anthony Towns (10300)
Wow, life without Jimmy Butler is sweet! Towns is coming off a massive 62.2 FD point outing scoring 39 real-life points to go with 19 rebounds. This is the ultimate smash spot for Towns against Brooklyn, a team that bleeds points to opposing centers. The price might seem steep but the ceiling is massive on the T-Wolves young big man tonight.

Nikola Vucevic (8500)
If Aaron Gordon is out, fire up Vuc! He’s gone for 21-14 in his last two games and did it with ease last night in only 26 minutes. He should expose Dwight Howard inside and has 50+ FanDuel point upside in this matchup.
Julius Randle (7300)
This is somewhat contingent upon Nikola Mirotic status for tonight. If Miro plays, then Randle might be a tad overpriced. But if Mirotic is out, then fire up Randle as one of the best values of the night. He’s been producing an elite per-minute rate all season and just dropped 45 FanDuel points in 37 minutes in his last game in his first start of the season.
Value: Mo Bamba (4300 – if Aaron Gordon is out)
FanDuel NBA GPP Breakdown: Game Stack of the Night
Orlando @ Washington (waiting on a total and spread)
We need some news on Aaron Gordon to know just how we stack this game, but I really like it whether he plays or not.
John Wall and Bradley Beal are the Wizards I want as both are playing huge minutes and being asked to carry the scoring for Washington on a nightly basis. I expect both to play big minutes again tonight and you’re looking a chance to get 90-100 FanDuel points by rostering them both.
The other Washington pieces to consider are Jeff Green and Kelly Oubre, both are getting a good bit of run off the bench as the Wizards play small. They’re eating in Markieff Morris‘s minutes and showing they deserve the run more than he does.
On the Orlando side, a lot depends on Aaron Gordon’s status. If he plays, I hesitate to use him even in this great spot because of the chance of re-injury (ankles are pesky). But I think we can hone in on Evan Fournier, Terrance Ross, and Nikola Vucevic as our three potential plays here. Jerian Grant is another nice value option as he’s outplaying the starter D.J. Augustin off the bench.
I think using 4-5 players from this game is not out of the question, but always make sure you’re comfortable with the other roster spots and the value you may need to plug-in to make it happen.
FanDuel NBA GPP Breakdown: Sample Lineup and Slate Overview
There are a lot of different ways to go tonight and end up with a lineup you love. I like game-stacking tonight, but make sure you don’t overdo it, as you likely don’t want to be overexposed to any one game on a 9-game slate.
I like paying up at point guard or small forward the most, but I’m leaning towards a more balanced type lineup tonight instead of a “stars and scrubs” type approach. Here’s where I am at this morning. Keep in mind these sample lineups are for illustrative purposes are not intended to be plug-and-play lineups. There’s still a lot of information we need about this slate before lock tonight!
