Kyle Korver might just be heading back to where it all started.

The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t tanking anymore. They recently traded Dario Saric, Robert Covington, Jerryd Bayless, and a second-round draft pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Jimmy Butler and Justin Patton, and they are now apparently chasing after Cleveland Cavaliers sharpshooter Kyle Korver.

Brian Scalabrine mentioned this during a broadcast of the recent Boston Celtics vs. Portland Trail Blazers game. Scalabrine played with Korver on the Chicago Bulls, and so he probably has a “source” with knowledge of the situation.

Korver was drafted by the Sixers. He played five seasons for them, and he shot 40.9 percent from behind the 3-point line during that tenure.

The 1-11 Cavaliers would probably love to get at least one draft pick back for the veteran, especially considering their recent coaching change. One of the reasons Ty Lue got let go by Cleveland was because the head coach preferred playing veterans like Korver and J.R. Smith over younger players. Korver has played just 15.3 minutes per game this season. Even if his playing time remains around the same for the Sixers, he would at least be putting in work for a playoff team.

Korver ranks fourth among NBA players in career 3-point field goals made with 2,223, and he would be a welcome addition to Philadelphia. They lack shooting because of their unique backcourt. Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz aren’t exactly elite from downtown, but Simmons, in particular, has the talent to collapse the paint and make space for shooters like Korver.

The Sixers are clearly no longer in “the process” of adding lottery picks to their stable. They are pushing all their chips to the middle of the table, and we’ll have to see if their combination of young talent and crafty veterans is enough to contend in the Eastern Conference.
