Warriors’ Draymond Green admits that ‘not every game matters’
By Dave Daniels
The Golden State Warriors have had an excellent start to the year, but they have also been frustrated by injuries.
The Golden State Warriors lost a marquee game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night, and that was partly because Draymond Green wasn’t in the lineup to protect the paint from Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Warriors also lost because Stephen Curry got injured during the game. He’ll miss at least the next two games while dealing with a groin strain, but, fortunately for Golden State, Green is set to return tonight.
He was a little bit salty about head coach Steve Kerr holding him out of the Bucks’ game though.
"“I wanted to play in that game,” Green said to ESPN. “The fact of the matter is you get up for different games. You try to roll with the cliché, saying, ‘Every game matters’ — it really don’t. Let’s just be honest.“That’s one of the games, TNT Thursday night, you’re playing against one of the best teams in the East. One of the best young talents we got in this league. Those are the games you want to play in.”"
The reason the media loves Draymond so much is his honesty. There aren’t a lot of players who would call out their coach and also admit that some games matter more than others.
In other injury news, Shaun Livingston will return tonight as well after missing the past seven games due to foot soreness. Curry’s MRI apparently looked good, and so he should be back on the court before long.
However, he’s never dealt with a groin injury before. He has mainly had ankle and knee problems since getting into the league, and this could be a different matter.
As for Green, we’ll have to see how he looks coming back from his toe injury tonight. You can be sure that he’ll be honest about it afterward.
