2. Todd Bowles, New York Jets

There are significant issues with the New York Jets. Despite having lauded draft classes in the last two years and spending money to plug holes this past off-season, the Jets are at 3-7. Worse yet, they were just destroyed by a Buffalo Bills team led by street free-agent Matt Barkley.

That should be the final straw for Bowles. Bowles is a quality defensive coordinator, and he’s been able to keep a mediocre team competitive against better teams in his four seasons. But his decision to fire John Morton for Jeremy Bates, starting Sam Darnold over Teddy Bridgewater, and now getting blown out to one of the NFL’s worst teams at home should cost him his job.

With over $100 million available to spend in free agency, a quarterback already committed to, and worthwhile talent scattered throughout the roster, the Jets job is dependent on your view of Darnold. General manager Mike Maccagnon isn’t necessarily an asset given his record, and the Jets tend to succumb to public pressure too much, so this isn’t going to be a hot job.

Like others, prioritizing an offensive mind who can maximize Darnold and revamp their line is a must. There’s enough receiving talent to produce moving forward, and the foundation on defense is in place. A quality coach can win quickly here if Darnold is worth his weight.

Watch for someone like Iowa State’s Matt Campbell to be in the mix here.
