FanDuel PGA Targets: The 2018 RSM Classic
Welcome to this edition of FanDuel PGA Targets from FantasyCPR.com. Here you will find players to target for this weekend’s action, geared for cash games and tournament plays on FanDuel.
In this article, I will present to you some FanDuel PGA Targets, for this weeks RSM Classic, held at Sea Island Golf Club, on St. Simons Island in Georgia. These picks will be broken down into three price tiers. Some plays will be geared toward cash games, and some for GPP. Some of course will also technically qualify as both.
As we break each play down, I will be sure to specify which type of contests I am targeting that player in. Normally, I will give two players to target from the $11K-$13K range, two targets from the $9K-$11K range, and two from the $8-9K range. However, this week we are going to change it up a bit. Before we get into that, let’s talk about last weeks Mayakoba Classic targets.
Last Weeks Recap:
Last weeks Mayakoba Classic Targets were pretty darn good if I do say so myself. I had one really solid GPP squad that was built entirely from this article that scored 629.1 FDP, which was good for 72nd place in the 5-max flop shot tournament. The only thing that kept me from really good money was no Matt Kuchar, who went on to shoot 23-under, and win the tournament.
The lineup was highlighted by both mid-tier targets in Abraham Ancer and Si Woo Kim, top-tier GPP write-up Gary Woodland, and bottom-tier target JJ Spaun. Finishing out the lineup was two players featured in the “others to consider” part of the mid-tier. Those golfers were Cameron Champ, who remains on fire and is a favorite this week, and Scott Piercy, who shot 17-under and finished T-6th.
Woodland kind of disappointed, but he was pretty chalky at 35%, and only Rickie Fowler was more popular in this tournament. Woodland finished T-41st at -9. Kim and Ancer were in it the whole way. Ancer played well notching a T-21 finish at 13-under. Spaun was a beast though, at just $9K, and pretty much my only play at this price tag other than Sungjae Im. He shot 19-under for the tournament, tying for third place, and is high on my radar once again this week.
All in all, five main write-up’s made the cut out of six, with the aforementioned Im being the only golfer who did not. On top of that, the “others to consider” were all pretty solid, including bonus GPP flyer Andres Albertson, who shot a respectable 6-under and finished T-55th.
This Week:
The RSM Classic is an eight-year-old event, established in 2010. It is played at the Par-70, 7005 yard Seaside Course, at Sea Island Golf Glub in Georgia. This event does not usually draw the big names, as most will wait until 2019 to tee it up again. Nevertheless, we still have an event with FedEx Cup points on the line, as well as the last bid to the Sentry Tournament of Champions, held at Kapalua Resort in Maui.
Some of the top names in the field include 2011 runner-up, and this years favorite Webb Simpson. He is the most expensive golfer in the field this week, and what kind of play he is for me this week is still yet to be determined. We will discuss that when we get there, as he is certainly a top GPP play without a doubt.
One of my personal favorites in the young Chilean Joaquin Niemann is back in action, but too expensive for my liking, as well as a couple of hot hands in Cameron Champ and JJ Spaun. We also have a surprisingly deep amount of targets in the $9-10K range this week, So let’s change up the format a bit this week.
Instead of giving you my top six picks with others to consider, I am instead going to give you my entire 12-man player pool I will use for tournament play. This is definitely a week to go as balanced as you can in cash games, so our sample lineup at the end will demonstrate this, as well as our mid-tier targets. So without further ado, here are the PGA FanDuel Targets!
FanDuel PGA Top Tier Targets:
Webb Simpson – $12,200 – (GPP)
Let’s start right at the top. When you take a good look at the field this week, Simpson is likely one of the only names that pop out at you. However, this is quite the price for the 33-year-old, despite being the odds on favorite to pull out the victory. Simpson made his 2019 FedEx Cup debut two weeks ago at the Shriners Open, and shot four solid rounds under par, finishing 13-under, and T-15th. I will have exposure in tournaments, but I don’t think this is necessary in cash games this week.
Cameron Champ – $11,400 – (Cash)
Instead of paying up for Simpson like I think most will do in cash games, I am going to opt down to Champ, who is playing lights out golf over the last month and change. His four tournament stretch is incredible really, having shot 14-of-16 rounds under par. Champ won the Sanderson Farms Championship with a score of 21-under, and didn’t slow down a bit after that.
Champ slipped a bit in the last round of the Shriners, and settled for a T-28 finish, but bounced back at last weeks Mayakoba Classic, to shoot 16-under and grab another top-10. I love Champ in all formats this week, as his four week average of 111.1 FDP per week is insane.
Cheng-Tsung Pan – $10,400 – (GPP)
One player I really have my eye on in tournaments this week that I think could pull off a win here this week, is the 27-year-old Cheng-Tsung Pan. Pan has played well here at the RSM Classic the last two years, with a T-6 in his first crack in 2016, and a T-13 in 2017. Much like Champ, Pan has been really consistent here in the fall season, notching four straight top-30’s with three straight top-25’s. He shot all four rounds under par last week at the Mayakoba Classic, and finished T-16th. I think he makes a great pivot from the likely popular Austin Cook, Zach Johnson, and Charles Howell.
FanDuel PGA: Mid Tier Targets:
JJ Spaun – $10,100 – (Cash/GPP)
Probably the chalkiest play of the week and rightfully so will be the red-hot Spaun. Featured here last week in the low-tier targets as he was priced at just $9,000, Spaun continued his fantastic stretch last week at the Mayakoba Classic, where he finished 19-under and T-3. He has now shot 12 straight rounds under par, and has finished no worse than T-15 in those events. Spaun is arguably still underpriced here, and is another lock for me in all formats.
Kevin Kisner – $10,000 – (GPP)
This one here is what I think will be an ownership pivot away from Chris Kirk and other players in this price range. Kisner played his first golf of the new season last week at the Mayakoba Classic, and was definitely a bit rusty, as he missed the cut. If recency bias is more important than course history, than Kisner could end up a fairly sneaky play.
Kisner didn’t finish last season great, as he failed to even qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. I am hoping the time off and the rusty start last week has him fired up to find his game and return to form this week. Kisner returns to Sea Island, where he won the RSM Classic in 2015, and has posted two more top-4 finishes as well.
Sam Ryder – $9,900 – (Cash/GPP)
Another golfer in play this week, in which I will also be riding the hot hand in, is Sam Ryder. Ryder has made four straight cuts in the fall season, and notched two top-5’s. He has kind of an interesting pattern going, and if there is anything to it, it would suggest we see another top-five finish.
It started at the Safeway Open, where Ryder shot 13-under, which was good for a T-4 finish. That was followed with a T-43 at the CIMB Classic, where he needed a 7-under final round just to finish there, as he barely snuck in the cut line.
Ryder then marched to a solo third place finish at the Shriners Open, also highlighted by a big final round, in which he shot 9-under.
Then finally last week, Ryder was back to mediocre at the Mayakoba Classic, where he finished a solo 54th. I believe in crazy trends like this, and I expect Ryder to continue his solid play, and while I won’t go as far to predict another top-five, Ryder should at least make a cut here.
Stewart Cink – $9,800 – (Cash)
Cink to me is like that warm blanket I tend to venture towards and cuddle with, when I look at below-average fields like this and see his name. Always a staple to make the cut, Cink was just another name in this price range that I knew I had to sneak in my cash lineups. A veteran here at Sea Island and the RSM Classic, Cink has made five of seven cuts, including a T-10 in 2016. He is 2-2 on making cuts in the fall season, with his best finish a T-13 at the CIMB Classic. He probably won’t win or be in contention, but a top-25 can pretty much be expected.
FanDuel PGA Low-Tier Targets:
Lucas Glover – $9,700 – (Cash)
Sticking with the theme of veteran golfers, and those who are in top form playing tremendous golf, our next target is Glover. Also quietly off to a great start in the fall season, Glover hasn’t missed a cut, and has finished no worse than T-17 in three starts. He has gotten progressively better each time out, highlighted by his 10-under 61 third round at the Shriners Open, where he finished T-7th. Glover has made five-straight cuts at Sea Island, with his best finish a T-9 in 2015. He seems like a steal at this price in this field, is viable in all formats, and is a cash lock in my opinion.

Jim Furyk – $9,500 – (GPP)
One more highly experienced veteran golfer has snuck into my player pool for tournaments, and I believe this is the first time in my almost one year of writing PGA that I have recommended him. Nonetheless, the 48-year-old is coming off of a turn-back-the-clock type performance last week at the Mayakoba Classic, that suggests he is firmly in play this week. He was consistent throughout all four rounds, finishing 17-under and T-6. Furyk plays sparingly these days, but at this price and that performance last week, he is worth throwing a dart at.
Brian Gay – $9,100 – (Cash)
Our last write-up this week, is the 46-year-old consistent cutmaker Brian Gay. In my opinion, it is looking now like Gay could be this weeks Spaun. Maybe priced too low at $9,100, this is the cash lock that allows us to pay up for Champ, and load up on those high $9 to low $10K range targets. Gay has made four straight cuts in the fall, however, his best finish was just a T-41 at last weeks Mayakoba Classic. It is the course history though that draws me to Gay this week, as he finished T-3 here last year, and also has a 4th place finish in five starts at the RSM Classic.
