42. . Defensive Tackle. Houston. Ed Oliver. 2. player

The San Francisco 49ers had an opportunity to win their second straight game on Monday night, but fell just short to the New York Giants. With the loss, the 49ers now have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, where they figure to get better on the defensive side of the ball.

This 49ers team was built to win this season, as they added some veteran talent, and drafted an elite left tackle in the first round in 2018. However, once Jimmy Garoppolo went down due to a torn ACL, the season went by the waste-side, although they have gotten strong play from third-string quarterback Nick Mullens the last two weeks.

When it comes time for the 49ers to draft next April, I like for them to go for the best defensive player available, and that could be Ed Oliver at No. 2. Sure, if the Raiders pull a Raiders and skip Nick Bosa at first overall, the 49ers should jump at him, but Oliver would be a solid addition to an already strong defensive line.

The 49ers are likely to struggle the rest of the way, and appear to be headed towards the top-5 selections next April. They will have a bunch of different ways they can go, but with a defensive-minded general manager in John Lynch, Oliver may be too good a prospect to pass up at No. 2 overall.
