The Duke Blue Devils aim to continue their dominance as the top-ranked team in college basketball as they face the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Wednesday.

Everyone knew that the Duke Blue Devils, armed with a historic incoming freshman class, would be a problem. However, they were ranked fourth in the preseason AP Top 25 poll, likely in an attempt to temper expectations. Heading into Wednesday’s matchup with the Eastern Michigan Eagles, however, the Blue Devils have already vaulted to No. 1, and rightfully so.

Legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski and Duke opened the season in a marquee matchup against Kentucky and made it look anything but marquee. The young trio of Zion Williamson, R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish came out and dominated the Wildcats, handing John Calipari the worst loss of his vaunted tenure in Lexington.

This group of three for the Blue Devils might be even better than we thought from the looks of their early-season play. They all check different boxes, but each box they check as individual complements the players with beside them on the floor. Though it’s still early in the year, they have very much the look of a team destined to play for a National Championship this season.

It’s worth noting that, though few will give Eastern Michigan a chance on Wednesday night, they have started the season with a 3-0 record. Yes, those wins came over Rochester, Drexel and Goshen, but they’re wins nonetheless. That being said, the team led by Paul Jackson and Boubacar Toure will have their hands more than full against Duke.

This should be another blowout victory for Duke, even if Eastern Michigan comes into this one undefeated. In truth, we likely won’t find out a great deal about the Blue Devils and their quality for some time, but it’ll be entertaining to watch them go berserk until that time.
