Fantasy Basketball Picks – Draftkings and Fanduel Strategy/Player Pool for November 14th
By David Ramos
Welcome to what is a Fantasy Basketball player pool for GPP mass multi entry on both Draftkings and FanDuel. We have a nice 11 game slate to dive in to with tons of potential this evening but before we do, please read below for a quick peek into my process and Fantasy basketball picks.
This fantasy basketball picks pool is designed to replace the mindset of using a core of players and then filling in with best fits and value. When selecting a pool of players for an NBA slate, the goal is to limit your pool to about 15% of the players available. This lower pool gives a higher variance while a larger pool field with yield a lower variance.
When determining my pool, I utilize many tools including my projection model as a guide in determining implied value to salary. I also look at minutes and typically only keep players expected to see 28 or more minutes. I also recommend setting your player pool exposure by selecting 5 to 6 players with an exposure of 60%, your mid level plays at 30 to 50%, value plays at 15 to 25%, and your punts to around 5 to 10%.
Using the csv edit option on both sites is the easiest way to enter in all your lineups once you have generated and here are links on how to do this – Fanduel CSV Draftkings CSV. The player pool on the following pages will be broken down into tiers – Elite (salary above 9k), Mid-tier (7-9k salary), Value/Pivots (5-7k salary), Punts (salary below 5k), and while based on Draftkings pricing, this is the same pool that will be used on Fanduel.

Fantasy basketball picks – Elite Plays
Getting right to it, it is on large slates in which I prefer to fade the high salary studs and tonight is no different. With 11 games on the docket, I will fade Anthony Davis and Giannis Antetokounmpo. They have salaries of 11.3k and 11K respectively on Draftkings and will need almost 70 points just to make 6x value.
There are better value to salary options to help bolster our lineups and one of those options is Andre Drummond. In 4 of his past 6 games he has exceeded 6x value and last year posted averages of 18.7 rebounds, 17.7 points, and 2.7 steals in 3 games against the Raptors. I think this trend will continue tonight. The only other plays to roster at this salary level are Paul George and LeBron James.
I am fading:
- John Wall – they get a thin Cleveland team on a back to back
- Joel Embiid – want to see how this new rotation plays out with Jimmy Butler
- Karl Anthony Towns – how will the new pieces affect his production
- Blake Griffin – has not been worth his salary much this year
- DeMar DeRozan – his floor is too low for what he is priced at
Fantasy basketball picks – Mid Tier Plays
Jrue Holiday has shown this season that he can produce regardless of who is on the floor with him. He is averaging 43 fantasy points a game and has only went under 40 once in the past 10 games. He has a usage rate of 23.5% this season with averages of 19.5 points and 9.2 assists per game. He gets a Timberwolves team who provide an easy matchup in 6 of 8 standard categories.
Marc Gasol may fly a bit under the radar tonight which is fine with me. He gets to face a not very good Milwaukee defense who rank second in points in the paint allowed per game. Gasol is averaging 14.8 points, 8.8 boards, 4.3 assists, 1.92 steals, and .83 blocks per game this season. If we facto in the bucks defense, it is possible to see a stat line of 18 points, 12 boards, 5 assists, and 2 steals which puts him in the 6 to 7x value category.
The rest of of this tier includes:
- LaMarcus Aldridge
- Rudy Gobert
- Kyle Lowry
- Kyrie Irving
- Dennis Schroder
- Donovan mitchell
- Steven Adams
- Devin Booker
- Zach LaVine
Fantasy basketball picks – Value and Pivot Plays
Let me start off by saying this is my favorite spot to target this evening and as long as Damian Lillard sits it all starts with CJ McCollum who becomes about as close as a lock for tonight. In 20 games without Lillard in his career he has averaged 26.9 points, 5.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds with a usage rate of 33.5%. Regardless of where he plays, he will get to feast on a paltry Lakers defense who are giving up roughly 45 fantasy points a game to the guard position.
Dwight Howard is priced down even though his fantasy points per game has gone up. He gets to face the Cavaliers, who are on the back end of a back to back and who allowed him to average a double double against them last season. Cleveland is allowing 20 points and 14 boards a game to opposing starting centers and expect Howard to exceed 7x tonight.

Fantasy basketball picks – Punt Plays
For this section I like to list those plays who have a solid floor with the possibility to reach and exceed 6x value. There is opportunity here to make a competitive lineup by using on MAYBE 2 of these plays, but do not load up on 3 or more to fit all studs – it never pans out. I will typically play one from here to give me some salary relief and pivot down to the value/pivot plays in order to make room for an elite option.
Our plays here tonight are:
- Tyson Chandler – punt special
- Dorian Finney-Smith
- Shelvin Mack
- JR Smith
- Ryan Arcidiacono
- Evan Turner – boost if Lillard sits
- Spencer Dinwiddie
As always, have fun and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter where I will post my final thoughts and any changes to the player pool and projections.
