The slumping Miami Heat will hit the road on Wednesday night to face the Brooklyn Nets, who are playing without one of their best players.
It’s not exactly a great time to be in South Florida right now. Broward County is in the middle of an embarrassing recount, and the Miami Heat are in the ethos of a slump.
The Heat (5-8) will try to righten the ship on Wednesday night when they open a quick two-game trip in Brooklyn.
Miami could use a little road trip right now, as their four-game homestand was a complete disaster. After opening the stretch with a surprising win over the San Antonio Spurs, the Heat dropped there last three to Indiana, Washington, and Philadelphia.
The Heat had a chance to take all three, but they collapsed late against the Pacers and the Wizards and were dismantled by the rejuvenated 76ers on Monday night. The lone bright spot during Miami’s slump has been the play of Josh Richardson, who leads the team with 20.5 points per game, including hitting nearly 44 percent of his three-point attempts.
While the Heat is trying to find a way back into contention, the Nets (6-8) are dealing with a blow to their offensive arsenal.
During a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, guard Caris LeVert suffered a horrendous leg injury. While it certainly looked like his season would come to an end, he got some good news on Tuesday, saying that the subtalar dislocation of his right foot would not require surgery, giving Nets fans hope that he could return this season.
In the interim, his 18.4 points per game will be greatly missed by the Nets, which means that others are going to have to step up in his absence, especially to counter the scoring of Richardson on Wednesday night.
