NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Centers

Nathan MacKinnon Avalanche ($7,300)

On a small slate, we have to take a few chances. The only risk in taking MacKinnon tonight is the match up against a very good Bruins team. They rank seventh in the NHL against opposing centers. MacKinnon is on a similar level to Connor McDavid in the speed department though, which makes him nearly match up proof.

It is hard to tell if he will be chalk tonight because of his talent, but the Bruins may scare some into fading him. I will not be one of those. I’m thinking an Avalanche stack could go a long way on this slate. Mac is third in the NHL in points trailing his opponent Patrice Bergeron, and line mate Mikko Rantanen. With 11 goals and 13 assists, he leads the charge on the power play, and has six PP points on the season.

Jonathan Toews Blackhawks ($5,400)

Toews can easily fit into a line up at this price. The coaching change has been the major headline for the Blackhawks recently. The team earned their first point the other night taking a game to OT before losing on a Sebastian Aho five-hole goal. Toews did his damage early getting to a clear spot in front of the net and tipping in a goal.

The Captain does not blow anyone away on the stat sheet, but has proven to consistently put up points. He has put up 20+ goals in 11 consecutive seasons, and is on pace to do it once again. He has nine goals and five assists and is looking to earn his new coach his first win at home at the Madhouse on Madison. Toews has earned 61.2% offensive zone starts and has great possession numbers with a CF% of 54.9 and a FF% of 54.4.

Others to consider: Nicklas Backstrom Capitals ($5,700), Carl Soderberg Avalanche ($3,500), William Karlsson Golden Knights ($5,100)

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Wingers

Mikko Rantanen Avalanche ($6,700)

On a slate with David Pastrnak, Rantanen could be faded by many. It is understandable if you prefer to play Pasta based on the season he had last year and the role he is currently on. But I am sticking with a mini stack of Rantanen and MacKinnon tonight, as he is $1,000 cheaper than Pastrnak.

Rantanen may not have a ton of goals, but he is getting points at a remarkable rate. Jaroslav Halak  has been really good lately, except for one match up that sticks out most to me. He gave up five goals to a young, fast and hungry Canucks team who show a lot of similarities to the Avs. The Avalanche have proven to be one of the most dangerous teams in the NHL and will use their speed to attack the Bruins.

Tom Wilson Capitals ($3,900)

In order to load up our line up with high level plays, we will need to look for value. Wilson had a break out season with the Caps during their Stanley Cup run finishing with 35 points on 14 goals and 21 assists. He brings a physical brand of hockey to a team loaded with a wealthy mix of young and veteran talent. Wilson returned from his 16 game suspension last night and did not waste any time getting on the score sheet. He scored a goal at the tail end of the first period and added a hit in nearly 17 minutes of ice time.

Wilson steps right into the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov, which gives him a great chance of getting an assist or cleaning up around the net. They have a tough match up against the Jets on the road on the second night of a back to back. But Wilson should certainly be well rested and ready to get back into attack mode (pun intended, but hoping he stays out of the box).

Others to consider: Blake Wheeler Jets ($6,800), Brad Marchand Bruins ($6,400), Alex DeBrincat Blackhawks ($5,800)

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Defense and Goalies

Dustin Byfuglien Jets ($5,900)

As previously discussed, the Capitals will be playing the second night of a back to back. Big Buff brings a physicality of his own, but the power and finesse to stuff the stat sheet. He comes in as the second most expensive defensive option averaging 4.1 FPPG. I like the Jets chances of avoiding Braden Holtby as we could see back up goaltender Phoenix Copley.

More from FanSided

Byfuglien is currently on a six game point streak with a goal and seven assists. That makes up for a relatively slow start as he has a total of two goals and 11 assists. We know what Byfuglien is capable of night in and night out, and he is sure to get plenty of ice time. He is part of an impressive power play unit, joining Blake Wheeler, Patrik Laine, Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor.

Others to consider: Colton Parayko Blues ($4,900), John Moore Bruins ($2,900)

Marc-Andre Fleury Golden Knights ($7,700)

As we try every night, you want the goalie with the best shot to win. There really is no perfect answer here as hockey is a sport of momentum and hot play. But VegasInsider likes the Knights chances tonight as -165 favorites against Anaheim and the lowest goal total of 5.5. Fleury has had an up and down year thus far with a 7-7-1 record.

It will be nearly impossible for him to have an encore of last years dream season. His last start did not go well, yielding five goals to the Canadiens. Fleury still has a 2.69 GAA and two shut outs on the season. As this is written prior to any confirmation of goalies, be sure to follow-up on Twitter @RickyOlshansky to check for updates on the starting goalies.

Others to consider: Corey Crawford Blackhawks ($8,000)
