The battle of two of the West’s best big men will commence in Minneapolis, as the Pelicans will pay a visit to the rejuvenated Timberwolves.
Now that the Minnesota Timberwolves have ridden themselves of Jimmy Butler, they can now get back to focusing on getting their season back on track.
They’ll continue the process when the Wolves entertain Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans at Target Center on Wednesday night.
Over the course of first 14-games of the 2018-19 NBA season, a dark cloud was hanging over the Timberwolves. Jimmy Butler, who came over to Minnesota a season ago, made it publically clear he wanted out, but the front office waited a bit too long to give into Butler’s demands for a trade.
During that time, he made life a bit miserable for the Timberwolves. While his play didn’t falter, his attitude toward the team was toxic, and it finally came to a close this week, when the Wolves trading Butler to the Philadelphia 76ers for Robert Covington, Dario Saric, Jerryd Bayless, and a future second-round pick.
The Timberwolves seemed grateful for the dark cloud finally lifting above them, as Karl-Anthony Towns dominated the Brooklyn Nets (25/21) in a 120-113 win. His rival, Anthony Davis, also had a monster 20/20 game (25/20) his last time out, which resulted in a 126-110 road win over the Toronto Raptors.
This will be the first meeting of the season between Davis and Towns, and the head-to-head matchups have been a great as advertised, with Davis holding a 5-4 edge against Towns. He’s also gotten the best of his Minnesota counterpart statistically, averaging 30.2 points and 9.1 rebounds against the Wolves, while Towns has 19.2 points and 10.8 against New Orleans.
