The San Antonio Spurs have not played like their usual selves on the road. They can reverse those fortunes with a date at the Suns.
It seems rather odd for the San Antonio Spurs to struggle on the road. Then again, that has been the theme recently.
Last season, the Spurs (7-5), who were, at one-point-in-time, one of the dominant road teams in the NBA, struggled mightily away from the Alamo City, ending with a paltry 14-27 road record. We thought it would be a one-off blimp, but their road struggles seemed to have leaped into the 2018-19 season as well.
The Spurs will get the chance to get back on the winning track on the road when they make a return to the one team they don’t have a problem betting on the road — the Phoenix Suns.
In fact, their last road win was a 120-90 creaming of the Suns, in which DeMar DeRozan dominated with 25 points, Pau Gasol turned back the hands of time with nine rebounds, and Bryan Forbes dished out seven assists.
Since then, the Spurs have become wobbly of late, losing three out of the last four games, which includes two-straight road losses to the Miami Heat and the Sacramento Kings. They’ll have to figure it out quickly, as six of their next 10 games will be on the road.

For the Suns (2-11), what was once promised to be a promising season has quickly morphed into being a typical Phoenix season, as in, a lot of losing. Their latest loss, a 118-101 drubbing at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder, was their 11th loss out of their last 12 games, and it doesn’t seem to get any easier as, in addition to the Spurs, they’ll face the Thunder (again), the 76ers, and high-flying Bucks, with the latter being on the road, where they’re winless.
Hey, at least Devon Booker and Deandre Ayton have turned out to be studs.
