Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is going on in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any updated information you need to know.

Fortnite Friday is a weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multiplayer showdown game, Fortnite: Battle Royale. Glider redeploy is officially over, which means there is a 100 percent chance you self-eliminated at least once this week.

Whether you like it or not, ending glider redeploy was not the problem. Introducing it was. Every single player used this feature just long enough to rely on it without thinking. Now, we’re all ramping up to our inevitable deaths, yelling “OH MY GOD I FORGOT…” as we frantically tap the glider button and nothing happens.

Epic Games is facing it’s first conundrum. The Fortnite world seems to be split right down the middle on glider redeploy, from the pros right down to the regular folks. We’ll all get used to not having it right on time for them to reintroduce it to please the other half of the world that loves it. Rinse. Repeat.

Here are your week 8 challenges.

Free challenges

  • Stage 1: Visit Lonely Lodge and Retail Row in a single match (0/2)
    • Stage 2: Visit Junk Junction and Pleasant Park in a single match (0/2)
    • Stage 3: Visit Flush Factory and Fatal Fields in a single match (0/2)
    • Stage 4: Visit Haunted Hills and Lazy Links in a single match (0/2)
    • Stage 5: Visit Tomato Temple and Shifty Shafts in a single match (0/2)
  • Dance with a fish trophy at different named locations (0/7)
  • Six shooter or heavy AR eliminations (0/2)

The staged visitation task is easily the most difficult of this grouping, especially now that the glider redeploy has been taken out of the game. With that being said, the only real cross-map trip will be from Tomato Temple to Shifty Shafts. This should go without saying, but use rifts when available for these.

Dancing in front of mounted fish trophies is all a matter of finding out where they are. You’ve likely seen them in passing, scattered throughout the map, but in case you don’t remember, here is a map (via Forbes) to help you out.

Battle pass challenges

  • Get a score of 3 on different clay pigeon shooters (0/3)
  • Get trick points in a vehicle (0/250,000)
  • Visit different named locations in a single match (0/4)
  • Stage 1: Use a grappling hook (0/1)
    • Stage 2: Use a launchpad (0/1)
    • Stage 3: Use a rift-to-go (0/1)

The clay pigeon shooters have been scattered throughout the map for some time now. Scoring three shots on these likely won’t be very difficult with the use of a tactical shotgun. Here are the shooter locations.

The trick point number may seem high, but it isn’t that difficult of a challenge. Take the ATKs and Quads off of ramps, cliffs and corrupted areas to score quick points. Make sure you land wheels-first.

This week’s staged challenge is likely a reminder to use all of the different items we’ve been ignoring since redeploy had been introduced. Launch pads went from near-useless to a hot commodity once again.

Update v6.30 patch notes and news

Glider redeploy: One last time for the people at the back: Glider redeploy has been removed from the game. No more jumping off of any cliff, ramp or build. Unfortunately, the redeploy does not work for balloons (yet), rendering the once fun new addition completely useless. I have a feeling they will change this.

Mounted Turrets: These extremely high-powered sentry guns are going to be a game changer. They are collected as traps, as to not take up an inventory spot, which is nice. Like traps, though, they cannot be moved once they are placed.

These are going to be a delight to have in end-game situations, especially in squads or duos. One or two players can light up opposing bases with turrets while the others take out those inside. If you see one, take out the platform it’s places upon.

More from Gaming

Food Fight LTM: It’s Team Durrr Burger vs. Team Pizza Pit in this protect-or-destroy game mode. Each team is split into two with five minutes to loot and/or build around your team mascot. Once the impenetrable wall comes down, the two teams battle it out to try to be the first to destroy the other team’s mascot.

Pickax buff: Pickax swings will now cause 20 damage instead of 10. This is absolutely massive because five swings to eliminate an opponent is not very much. In close-range, low-health melee situations, a pickax swing is now more dependable than a pump shotgun.

Elimination of the week

Going back to @Ninja to emphasize how important the pickax buff is going to be in melee situations.
