The Golden State Warriors head into a matchup with the surging Dallas Mavericks riding a rare, and disheartening, losing streak.
It’s almost unfathomable to say, but the Golden State Warriors are sputtering and desperately searching for answers.
For the first time in a while, they find those answers hard to come by in Dallas, where they’ll face a Mavericks team that has found its groove and is looking for another statement win.
Golden State (12-4) has dropped their last three games, and drama behind the scenes and the continued absence of Stephen Curry hasn’t made the things easy in the Bay Area. Their last lost was probably the worst, a listless 107-86 showing at the Houston Rockets that kicked off a three-game, Texas road trip.
The Warriors looked out-of-sorts and disillusioned, two things we rarely see from the newest dynasty to grace the NBA. “We’re banged up a little bit physically and right now we’re banged up spiritually,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said after the loss in Houston.
With their leader expected to miss the next four games, the onus is on Kevin Durant and the rest of the Warriors to regain their winning spirit while trecking through the Lone Star State.
While the Warriors are down, the Mavericks (6-8) are riding a high they haven’t been on in three seasons.
Dallas has won three straight, and four out of their last five to get to within two games of being a .500 team. After getting blown out by the Utah Jazz on Nov. 7, the Mavs have tightened up the defensive screws, holding their last three opponents below 100 points. Their latest victory was a 50-point demolition of the struggling Jazz at home.
Harrison Barnes led the way with 19 points, and star rookie Luka Doncic chipped in 13 points as they held the Jazz to a league season-low 68 points.
