Heisman rankings – Week 12: Gardner Minshew makes his big move
6. Will Grier, QB, West Virginia
Will Grier had a productive overall day for the West Virginia Mountaineers on Sunday as they took on the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The senior quarterback wasn’t particularly efficient with his 27-of-48 passing on the day, but he did throw for 364 yards and two touchdowns while not giving the ball away. What’s more, Grier also rushed for another score on the day to bolster his statistical output.
However, Grier’s stock in this race ultimately took a bit of a hit as he and the Mountaineers suffered their second loss of the season. In a game where 86 points were scored, Grier wasn’t necessarily as productive and as dominant as you’d want a Heisman candidate to be in such a big moment. Because of that, he slips a bit in the rankings.
5. McKenzie Milton, QB, UCF
McKenzie Milton and the UCF Knights faced arguably their toughest test of the season on Saturday night, going up against the strong defense of the Cincinnati Bearcats. Looking to keep their second-straight perfect season intact, Milton and the Knights needed a big showing and the quarterback undeniably provided that with one of his best overall performances of the season.
Though he wasn’t particularly efficient with his arm, Milton was productive through the air, going 13-of-25 for 268 yards and three touchdowns, committing no turnovers on the day in the process. Though the quarterback didn’t find a great deal of yardage with his legs, he did find the end zone for his ninth rushing touchdown of the season. At the helm of a perfect team, he’s surely a Heisman candidate.
