Fantasy Football 2018 Week 12 Waiver Wire – Time to Back Up Your Studs
By Bill Pivetz
The fantasy football regular season is almost over and bye weeks are in the rearview mirror. Here are some Waiver Wire backups worth adding for security.
The fantasy football season is rushing along with the final Week 11 game taking place Monday night. Those two teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams, are also on a bye in Week 12. However, with most teams back at full strength, there’s no need to pick up the one-week Waiver Wire wonders or big-risk plays.
At this point in the season, you want to protect your stars any way possible. Heading into the playoffs with scrubs is not a winning strategy. Then again, you likely didn’t make it this far with scrubs on your roster.
This waiver wire list will feature a few backup players that need to be owned in case of injury (and some already happened) to their teammates. There may be a flyer or two but their role could expand and lead to better performances in the next couple of weeks.
Josh Adams, PHI
Despite the beat down the New Orleans Saints gave to the defending Super Bowl champions, Adams was the lone bright spot on this team.
Darren Sproles was ruled out to face his former team. This left Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood and Adams to carry the ball. The former two combined for three carries and seven total yards.

Adams, on the other hand, rushed seven times for 53 yards and a touchdown. He scored on a 28-yard rush in the second quarter.
The Philadelphia Eagles face the New York Giants in Week 12, a team that allowed Peyton Barber to rush for 106 yards.
Gus Edwards, BAL
This was a big surprise. The Baltimore Ravens started Lamar Jackson at quarterback due to an injury to Joe Flacco. They also changed their starting running back for their game in Week 11.
Alex Collins and Javorius Allen took a back seat to Edwards. Edwards carried the ball 17 times for 115 yards and a touchdown. Collins took seven carries for 18 yards and a score and Allen took a carry for two yards.
Edwards was on the field for 49 snaps, the most of all the running backs. He is a must add.
LeGarrette Blount/Theo Riddick, DET
The Detroit Lions have relied on Kerryon Johnson as their main running back this season. He’s been on a roll over the last couple of weeks. Though, he left the Week 11 game early with a knee injury. It was revealed to be a knee sprain and is considered week-to-week.
In the interim, both Blount and Riddick will see a boost in snaps. Blount will likely carry the ball between the 20s while Riddick will be on the field for passing downs. We may even see Zach Zenner take a few carries.
For any Johnson owners, especially in PPR leagues, I’d look to add Riddick before it’s too late.
John Ross, CIN
With the loss of A.J. Green, many thought Tyler Boyd would see an increase in production. That hasn’t happened in the last two weeks. He has seven catches for 136 yards in that span. While that’s good, he isn’t getting the touchdowns.
Those have been going to Ross. He has four catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns in the last two games. Andy Dalton has targeted him 13 times in that span, so he’s getting the looks. Though, Green may be able to return in Week 12.
Bruce Ellington, DET
The Lions were without Marvin Jones in their Week 11 game. This allowed Kenny Golladay to have his best game this season, eight catches for 113 yards and a score. It also allowed Ellington to step up.
The former 49ers and Texans wide receiver caught six passes for 52 yards. The loss of Golden Tate opens up targets for Ellington. With the Lions scheduled to play Thursday afternoon, Jones is unlikely to play in Week 12.
These six players have roles carved out for them on their respective teams. When looking for a waiver wire add, you want players you are going to play most of the game. More playing time yields more scoring opportunities. These players are widely available in most leagues.
