The Bucks are the only team in the league with a double-digit point differential, nearly 3.0 points per 100 possessions higher than the second-place Raptors. The difference between them and Toronto is roughly the same as the difference between Toronto and the seventh-place Los Angeles Clippers. To say that the Bucks have separated themselves from the pack through this portion of the season is an extreme understatement. 538’s projections give Milwaukee a 19 percent chance of making the Finals, nearly three times as much as their preseason odds.

More than any other team in the hunt, sustaining their regular season dominance seems important to the Bucks. The Raptors don’t have anything to prove until the playoffs. The Warriors are confident in their ability to flip a switch. The 76ers and Celtics have the players who have been there before. This is still relatively new for Milwaukee though. Securing a number one seed could hold real psychological weight for them and so there’s no reason to expect they’ll take their foot off the gas.
