Fantasy Football: Thursday Turkey-Day Lock Plays
By Shaun Evans
It’s just about that time when the turkey is coming out of the oven, house smelling like good cook food and we get football all day! We have a 3 game Fantasy Football slate and we have some “Lock Plays” to look at so let’s get to cooking!
Fantasy Football Lock Plays: Thanksgiving Edition
Drew Brees vs. Atlanta Falcons
Salary: Draftkings: $6,700 | Fanduel: $9,00
How can you fade Drew Brees when him and the New Orleans Saints are heating up? Being the highest priced quarterback on the slate, the chances of him being highly owned may be slim when you do have Matt Ryan on the opposite side of the field plus Mitchell Trubisky, if he’s healthy, with Matt Stafford and Dak Prescott. The Atlanta Falcons rank 29th in the passing defense game, allowing 284 yards per game. In his past three games, Brees has thrown for a total of 11 touchdowns and no interceptions. He has been nothing but amazing in those games, almost throwing for a thousand yards. Drew Brees is a must lock play going up against the Falcons who can’t seem to stop an offense that often this season.
Mark Ingram vs. Atlanta Falcons
Salary: Draftkings: $6,100 | Fanduel: $7,400
There are only two other running-backs to play besides Mark Ingram and those two are Ezekiel Elliott and Alvin Kamara, possibly Tarik Cohen if you believe in his on, off week. But Ingram comes in at a salary saving costs and has had two nice back to back showing. The Saints are firing on all cylinders right now and will continue to do so. The Atlanta Falcons rank 23rd against the run, allowing 121 yards per game. But besides the running game, Atlanta ranks 26th against running-backs in the passing game and allow close to 7 receptions and 67 yards per game. While Kamara will be the work-horse, Ingram will still get his chances and when he does, he’ll find the end-zone.

Amari Cooper vs. Washington Redskins
Salary: Draftkings: $5,700 | Fanduel: $6,500
The pool for wide receivers is deep with some good match-ups but you just have to choose right when pairing them with Julio Jones or Michael Thomas who both have a great match-up. Cooper is one to look at who is getting into his role with the Dallas Cowboys still. The Washington Redskins rank 24th against the pass, allowing 261 yards per game and rank 13th against the number one receiver, allowing 8 receptions and 84 yards per game. Since joining the Cowboys, Cooper has had two games in double-digit points but had a bad week last Sunday. With a match-up like this, Cooper should bounce back and have a nice Thursday showing. For Thursday games, Cooper has had two touchdowns, averaging 83 yards in 3 games with a completion rating of 56 percent.
Julio Jones vs. New Orleans Saints
Salary: Draftkings: $8,300 | Fanduel: $8,800
A man who wasn’t able to find the end-zone all season long has now found it for three straight weeks which we can’t pass up. Jones has only been under hundred yards receiving in three games while only being under double-digit targets in four games. The Saints rank 27th against the pass, allowing 280 yards per game and they also rank 30th against the number one receiver, allowing 7 receptions and 81 yards per game. This just gives Jones another opportunity to break value plus find the end-zone once or maybe even twice. With Brees and Ryans ability to throw, this game should be a shoot out, entertaining offense wise but not defensively as both teams rank poorly against the pass.
Trey Burton vs. Detroit Lions
Salary: Draftkings: $4,000 | Fanduel: $6,400
This isn’t the prettiest pool for tight-ends but Trey Burton does stand out facing the Detroit Lions. While we don’t know the status of Trubisky, the Lions rank 29th against tight ends, allowing 6 receptions and 43 yards per game. The Lions do rank 13th against the pass, only allowing 239 yards though which is the down side. While Burton doesn’t have pretty prime time stats, he catches whatever is thrown his way on Thursday so if the Bears defense is locked in, giving whoever is at quarterback the opportunity to control the game, Burton has a nice upside.
