DraftKings NBA Early Picks November 23: Play Towns against Brooklyn
Hopefully you gobbled til you wobbled yesterday. Now that we have given thanks, its time to try and win some money to go shopping. Sorry about the lack of a EuroLeague slate from yesterday. I drove all night to Iceland (okay….Northern Minnesota, but it feels like Iceland) and didn’t have a chance to get the picks up. We are back with a chock full Friday. There are 14(!) NBA games on Friday, but two of them make up the early DraftKings NBA tournament. The night slate is huge. The day slate is going to be interesting.

Due to the short slate, I am switching up the format a little. With only two games on the slate, we really don’t need a breakdown of six people per position in most cases. Only Minnesota, Memphis, Brooklyn, and the Clippers are in on the matinee action. Aside from Towns, we don’t really have a star here.

DraftKings NBA Guard Picks:
D’Angelo Russell is the highest price guard and second highest priced player on the slate. Honestly, if you have followed Russell’s career track at all, this has to be more than a bit unnerving. Russell has had good stretches before, but they rarely last, and even more rarely include more than two consecutive games. The game against Dallas on Monday has to go down as a disappointment, but Russell torched the Timberwolves for 49.5 DraftKings points in the first meeting. I see no reason to trust that he will do it again.
Mike Conley has back to back games of more than 50 DraftKings points, and now he gets to face the Clippers, who have allowed the most fantasy points to point guards this season. I love the idea of pairing Russell with Conley, but we have to find some value.
Lou Williams at $5,900 could provide that. However, I’m not really a fan of either him or Shai against a rejuvenated Memphis backcourt. Jeff Teague against Brooklyn looks like a much better option considering he put up 47.25 DraftKings points on the Nets the first time around. We also have the added benefit of Teague have two horrid games in a row. That could keep ownership down.
Derrick Rose continues to get good run and good numbers for the Timberwolves, but my issue with him is the price. It’s getting harder and harder for him to hit value.
If you don’t mind using backups, Dinwiddie and Beverley are out there, but honestly, with the Brooklyn backcourt healthy, I’m off of Dinwiddie and his price. I would much rather drop down to Allen Crabbe. He has the most upside of any of the Brooklyn guards besides Russell. Shelvin Mack is worth a look, but has cooled off lately. Avery Bradley has the minutes, but not the production.
Forwards:
Tobias Harris is pretty much a must play with his price below $8,000. Harris has three straight games of more than 40 DraftKings points, and has hit that mark in six of the last nine games. Montrezl Harrell isn’t far behind, but he may be due for a dud against Memphis where JaMychal Green has completely taken away the value of Jaren Jackson.

Gallinari is back after missing a game, but he was ice cold against Washington on Wednesday. He missed all eight shots from the floor as well. I think we can do better than his matchup against Memphis. Robert Covington is the obvious pivot based on sheer volume alone. His exile to the great white north has gone well so far. I’m not crazy about the matchup with Brooklyn, but based on the volume, Covington is safe but doesn’t have crazy upside.
The Timberwolves other new toy, Dario Saric, has gone largely unnoticed. It’s time to take note. He has topped 20 DraftKings points in each of the last three games, and is still very cheap. He is outplaying Taj Gibson, and is slowly carving away minutes.
Ed Davis is still only playing about 20 minutes per game, but he has at least 5x value in three straight games. He is questionable due to an ankle sprain, but if Ed can play, the Timberwolves are a great place to use him.
Well, we have quite a conundrum at center here. Towns is playing Brooklyn, so we have to use him. KAT had 59.25 against Brooklyn in the last meeting. Next up is Marc Gasol, who is playing a Clippers team that is second worst only to the Nets in fantasy points allowed to centers. Gasol has six straight games of more than 40 DraftKings points. This is a lock for seven.
So why the conundrum? Just use one at UTIL and one at C, right? Well, Jarrett Allen has a superb matchup against Towns in the middle as well. We can’t use all three since none are eligible at F. I view Towns as the must play. Use whichever second fiddle at UTIL that your team build allows.
