Walmart is a top destination for both Thanksgiving preparation and Black Friday deals, so will your local Walmart be open on Thanksgiving?

The holiday season has arrived, and Thanksgiving and Black Friday 2018 kick things off. Walmart is known for incredible Black Friday deals that start on Thanksgiving night, but Thanksgiving hours for Walmart vary by location.

Once again, Walmart will kick off the holiday shopping season with their Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving Day. Stores will open at 6:00 p.m. local time, initiating a weekend filled with doorbusters and irresistible holiday markdowns. Stores will roll out Black Friday deals starting at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday so that shoppers can get a jump on holiday shopping in the hopes that this will help ease crowds in-store on Thursday and Friday.

It’s important to note, however, that not all locations will be open during Thanksgiving Day proper. Some 24-hour locations may close Wednesday night to allow employees to celebrate the holiday with family and friends before returning for Black Friday. Walmart locations that are not open 24 hours will have special holiday schedules, so it’s very important to check with each individual location if you need to make a Walmart trip earlier in the day on Thanksgiving.

Other  24-hour locations will remain open as usual, and they usually start moving the Black Friday deals onto the sales floor wrapped in plastic, to be removed at 6:00 p.m. sharp.

Things get even more complicated on Thanksgiving evening when the Black Friday rush starts to wane. The 24-hour stores will likely remain open through the night while the stores that are not 24 hours will close to prepare for the Black Friday morning rush.

When it comes to shopping at Walmart on Thanksgiving, calling ahead is an absolute must because the hours of operation will vary by location, with the only constant that the early Black Friday deals will begin at 6:00 p.m. local time.
