College Football Results Against The Spread Week 12 2018

I had my best college football week of the season in week 11. Was I able to keep it going with a strong week 12? I do kind of have my doubts. I think I picked most of the massive SEC spreads right, but there are a couple of big ones that I know I missed.

I only had four picks right in college football Pick Em, but they were all in the upper half of my picks, so my point total wasn’t that bad. Was I able to salvage the spread picks as well?

Here we will recap my picks against the spread. The winner against the spread will be in BOLD. My result will follow. Let’s get to it!

In case you want to follow along:

Picks for week 12

Let’s check the damage from this week. Hopefully it isn’t as bad as I think.

Western Michigan(-7.5) at Ball State: MISS! This was one of the more entertaining games of the week, but it wasn’t the only one to feature a missed two point conversion in overtime while going for the win. It wasn’t nearly as well known either.

Buffalo at Ohio(-1.5): MISS! Wow, talk about a beating. Buffalo had no chance in this one. It was 31-10 at halftime.

Miami(OH) at Northern Illinois(-6.5): HIT! This was a statement win by the Redhawks that will only help their bowl hopes if they snag that sixth win this week. NIU is still going to the MAC title game though.

Toledo(-13.5) at Kent State: HIT! Bryant Koback ran wild here. He’s going to be an interesting play on DraftKings during bowl season.

Tulane at Houston(-10.5): MISS! I deserve to lose this one. Trying to get cute and Houston wins by 31. The Ed Oliver-Major Applewhite undercard ended up being more interesting than the game.

Florida Atlantic at North Texas(-2.5): MISS! This was a good game at least, but UNT’s DeAndre Torrey actually overshadowed Devin Singletary in this game. Torrey had a career high 184 rushing yards.

Memphis(-9.5) at SMU: MISS! This game was 7-5 at halftime. Memphis came up with stops when they needed to, and pulled away in the four quarter a little bit. If SMU had just kicked the extra point instead of going for two in the fourth quarter, I would have at least been on the other side of this.

Boise State(-20.5) at New Mexico: HIT! Just another day at the office for the Boise offense.

Ohio State(-14.5) at Maryland: MISS! Well, I did ignore the the writing on the wall in this one. Ohio State is really really really really really really really lucky they still have something to play for in The Game.

Penn State(-27.5) at Rutgers: HIT! The two teams didn’t even combine for what Penn State was supposed to cover by. Tell us how good this Penn State offense is again? I forgot.

Middle Tennessee State at Kentucky(-16.5): HIT! The jury is still out on whether MTSU is a better opponent than Rutgers. However, one is going to a bowl game and one got blown out by Kansas. You decide from there.

Arkansas atĀ Mississippi State(-21.5): MISS! So much for that improving Arkansas team…..

Northwestern at Minnesota(-2.5): HIT! Vegas still doesn’t believe in Northwestern. This could be something that we can continue to take advantage of.

South Florida at Temple(-13.5):Ā MISS! I like to think I give credit where it’s due, so the South Florida defense did a superb job on Armstead in this one. He netted just 64 yards on 26 carries!

Michigan State at Nebraska: HIT! I wouldn’t necessarily say that Nebraska got loose, but that offense was starting to figure this thing out in the fourth quarter. Both defenses played a great game. That’s how bad the Michigan State offense is. They made Nebraska’s defense look good!

TCU at Baylor: MISS! Are you sure this was a Big 12(10) game? I would barely believe that 16-9 was a Big 12(10) quarter, let alone an entire game!

Pittsburgh(-6.5) at Wake Forest: MISS! It took them a while, but Pitt finally has that run game working. That is when they become a dangerous team.

North Carolina State(-15.5) at Louisville: HIT! I didn’t give the Wolfpack enough credit. Forget doubling this, they nearly tripled this line!

Utah(-7.5) at Colorado: HIT! I guess Utah didn’t really need their quarterback anyway. Why did I lower the bet? Oh, yeah. I though Colorado was good because of September.

Utah State(-28.5) at Colorado State:Ā MISS! Note to self: Utah State can’t play in snow. They were really fortunate to win this game on the last play.

Florida International(-5.5) at Charlotte: HIT! The Panthers came to life in November. Will that carry over to the bowls?

Syracuse vs. Notre Dame(-9.5) at Yankee Stadium: MISS! This was very anticlimactic once Eric Dungey left the game in the first quarter. After that the Orange had no chance. It may not have mattered even if Dungey was healthy seeing the way Notre Dame came out in this one.

Georgia State at Appalachian State(-28.5): HIT! I feel like a genius now because I did win because of that half! A whole one point!

UTSA at Marshall(-27.5): MISS! This is why I hate big spreads. The Herd dominated this game in every way possible, shutting out the Roadrunners, and they still didn’t cover.

Louisiana-Monroe atĀ Arkansas State(-7.5): HIT! Another three touchdown game for Justice Hansen and another win for me. I’ll take it!

Nevada(-14.5) atĀ San Jose State: MISS! Well, the Spartans defense is improving at the very least.

West Virginia(-6.5) at Oklahoma State: MISS! Whatever statement this was, it wasn’t well received in Morgantown.

Boston College at Florida State(-1.5): HIT! Wow, I never thought I would need that half. I didn’t deserve this win though. This was one of those places that I just got lucky.

Tulsa at Navy(-5.5): MISS! Sometimes love teaches a hard lesson. Other times Navy does. Sometimes it’s both.

Texas State at Troy(-22.5): MISS!Ā In the bizarro world stat of the week, Troy picked off Tyler Vitt five times and scored 12 points. Figure that one out.

Louisiana Tech atĀ Southern Mississippi(EVEN):Ā MISS! I actually hit this one in real life because I got the line at -1.5. I did as I said I would though. I sat back and enjoyed this game!

Wisconsin at Purdue(-4.5): HIT! Taylor did bring this home on his own. In other news, the Big 12(10) has offered Baylor and TCU for Wisconsin and Purdue.

Bowling Green at Akron(-6.5): MISS! Who would have ever thought that Carl Pelini’s coaching arc would usurp Bo’s?

Virginia at Georgia Tech(-5.5): HIT! The Hoos didn’t take this straight up, but it doesn’t matter much to me. I still got the win.

Miami(FL)(-6.5)Ā at Virginia Tech:Ā HIT! This was easy money if you took it. This is Virginia Tech’s worst season in recent memory.

Texas Tech(-6.5) at Kansas State: MISS! I think this is the worst showing from a Texas Tech offense since 1999. It was that bad.

Iowa(-14.5) at Illinois: HIT! This was total domination by the Hawkeyes as they try to improve their bowl position.

Missouri(-6.5) at Tennessee:Ā HIT! I definitely should have put more on this. Tennessee isn’t actually any better than they were a month ago. The competition just got easier.

USC(-3.5) at UCLA: HIT! A big fourth quarter for the Bruins got them a big win in an otherwise lost season.

Indiana at Michigan(-28.5): HIT! Michigan wasn’t really all that interested in this game. They used it more like a practice again.

Massachusetts at Georgia(-41.5): HIT! Georgia definitely made me sweat this one.

Liberty at Auburn(-28.5): MISS! Well, that was an impressive practice for Auburn. Will it help in the Iron Bowl?

Air Force atĀ Wyoming(-2.5):Ā MISS!Ā Nice defense Air Force. Way to give up three touchdowns in the fourth quarter!

Oregon State at Washington(-33.5): HIT! You know some poor suckers bought this line. Hopefully it wasn’t any of you!

Georgia Southern(-6.5) at Coastal Carolina:Ā MISS! The Sun Belt has certainly cost me a lot of one pointers this year.

South Alabama at Louisiana(-17.5): MISS! The Sun Belt is just aggravating sometimes.

Duke at Clemson(-28.5): MISS! I was right. Clemson didn’t win by 30. It was 29. Figures.

Connecticut at East Carolina(-16.5): HIT! It was low. Very low. I want to see UConn play Tennessee. Just out of morbid curiosity.

UAB at Texas A&M(-16.5): HIT! I was sweating this one for a while. UAB hung around much like I thought they would, but A&M was just too much down the stretch.

More from College Football Odds

Kansas at Oklahoma(-34.5): HIT! Hooray, beer! Seriously though, I don’t know why I ever thought Oklahoma could cover this.

Rice at LSU(-32.5): HIT! LSU scored exactly 42, so even if they would have pitched a shutout, they still wouldn’t have covered this line. This was way too many.

Mississippi at Vanderbilt(-2.5): HIT! Does anyone want to play the Commodores right now? They are looking really good. Or it could just be that the teams they are playing are bad.

UTEP at Western Kentucky(-6.5): HIT! Well, WKU gets to look good for one week, at least.

Cincinnati at Central Florida(-6.5): MISS!Ā This was a statement game for the UCF detractors, but many teams own wins against teams ranked 20-25.

Iowa State atĀ Texas(-2.5): MISS! The Iowa State offense was lost without Montgomery, and wasn’t much better when he was in there. This was a lost game for the Cyclones. Texas just dominated them.

New Mexico State atĀ BYU(-24.5): HIT! Avoiding New Mexico State is a pretty strong betting strategy right now.

Arizona at Washington State(-8.5) HIT! You can’t accuse Washington State of not showing up. Even the Apple Cup may have been different if not played in a blizzard. That definitely played to Washington’s strengths.

San Diego StateĀ at Fresno State(-13,.5): MISS! I should have known that Fresno wasn’t going to cover. The SDSU defense is still pretty good.

Arizona State at Oregon(-3.5): HIT! Sparky didn’t win straight up, but I’ll take my win anyway. I took it on the chin with the big bets this week, so I need it.

UNLV atĀ Hawaii(-6.5): MISS! Where did that come from? Lexington Thomas still had a big day, but he had no help.

My week wasn’t as bad as I thought, or as bad as my Pick Em total may have suggested. I went 30-30, so I didn’t gain or lose anything. That puts my season total at 335-325 heading into rivalry week. My goal of 55% is pretty much just a dream now. Finishing above .500 again will have to be good enough.

Despite the solid showing, I’m pretty sure I lost points this week. My three and four point picks were brutal. Let’s see just how much I managed to lose for myself.

This week’s totals follow the number. The season totals are in parentheses.

1. 3-4 (52-47) = 5
2. 17-6(134-118) = 32
3. 7-13 (90-91) = -3
4. 1-6 (37-41) = -16
5. 2-1 (22-23) = -5

I had a great week in two pointers, which helped carry my horrible 4s. I ended up losing 12 points, but I am still 13 points up on the season
