Daily Fantasy Football: Week Twelve at Yahoo

Rizzla discusses his week twelve Yahoo Daily Fantasy Football: NFL Yahoo Cup lineup.
Daily Fantasy Football: Week Twelve at Yahoo
Another exciting week of daily fantasy football is in the books and a few more lessons have been learned. As always I try to learn from my lineup blunders and my week eleven plays were not without them. My biggest missteps were plugging in the San Diego Chargers defense, Emmanuel Sanders and stunningly, Zach Ertz.
In the case of San Diego’s D, they managed zero sacks and zero interceptions and somehow even found a way to lose the game. The Chargers D put up zero total points and left a huge hole in my lineup.
Emmanuel Sanders had another disappointing outing and has yet to realize his supposed new higher fantasy floor with Demaryius Thomas out-of-town. The lesson learned here is that Sanders is seeing less and less time in the slot (54 percent in week eleven vs 61 percent coming into the week) hurting his upside and I was also reminded that Case Keenum is no more than a good backup outside of Pat Shurmur’s offense.
Zach Ertz was my most puzzling week eleven lineup miss as he scored a measly 2.50 points off of two receptions for 15 yards. The Philadelphia Eagles were admittedly sacrificing offensive scheme to manufacture Golden Tate touches and the result was Carson Wentz and Zach Ertz combining for what will likely go down as the worst fantasy outing ever for the talented duo. Ertz should find himself back on track as soon as this week versus the Giants.
For this week’s NFL Yahoo Cup free roll I followed my usual strategy of filling defense, tight end and quarterback first by identifying the best potential values and then doing the same for both running back and receiver.

Lamar Jackson ($28 Salary; 20th salary rank; 5th personal rank)
Dynamic new Baltimore Ravens starting quarterback Lamar Jackson has a week eleven date with an Oakland Raiders defense surrendering the twelfth most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. The Raiders arguably field a defense worse than some of the college teams Jackson faced and this game will in all likelihood serve as his coming out party. With the Oakland Raiders having given up the second most total rushing yards in the NFL and being tied for allowing the sixth highest yards per carry mark at 4.8, Jackson is a legitimate threat to break Colin Kaepernick’s single game NFL rushing record this weekend. If that statement seems far-fetched one should take into account that Lamar Jackson had the most single game rushing attempts ever by an NFL quarterback and had the most rushing yards for a rookie in their NFL debut as a starter since the pre-merger era. Even though he had 100 plus yards rushing last week, he only threw for 150 and had zero total touchdowns, which is about as close to his floor as we can suspect to see when you add the interception; this weekend however we may be invited to a sneak peek of his fantasy ceiling.
Gus Edwards ($18 Salary; 24th salary rank; 23rd personal rank)
Gus Edwards had a coming out party in week eleven against the Cincinnati Bengals and seems to have sewn up a large role in the offense as long as Lamar Jackson remains the quarterback. A better complement for Lamar Jackson than Alex Collins is due to his smashmouth, power back style Edwards fantasy arrow is pointing up. One of my hot pickups for this week Edwards squares off against a Raiders defense relinquishing the sixth most fantasy points to opposing running backs. As referenced above the Oakland Raiders have given up 4.8 yards per carry and the second most rushing yards in the NFL, stats that should be delightful news to the eyes and ears of fantasy owners that won their bids for him. I still have Edwards as more of a RB2 for week twelve due to his floor but the upside here is palpable as Edwards could plausibly have his best ground performance of his NFL career, past and future.
Josh Adams ($13 Salary, 47th salary rank; 26th personal rank)
Josh Adams seems to have taken hold of the reins in the Philadelphia Eagles backfield and will have a tasty week twelve matchup versus a New York Giants defense giving up the tenth most fantasy points to opposing running backs. After an eye opening loss to the Saints in week eleven the Eagles sit as six point favorites in this contest suggesting there should be some positive game script for Adams to take advantage of as far as the touch department is concerned. Wendell Smallwood and to a lesser extent Corey Clement will remain involved here but Josh Adams has the lead back job and should threaten 15 plus touches as long as Carson Wentz doesn’t faceplant like he did against New Orleans.

Odell Beckham Jr. ($35 Salary; 5th salary rank; 1st personal rank)
My top overall receiver for week twelve, Odell Beckham Jr. squares off against a Philadelphia Eagles defense that has become a sieve to enemy wideouts as they are giving up the second most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Although they were able to hold him in check in their previous meeting this season (6-44) the Eagles have allowed an astounding 7.6 receptions, 104.6 receiving yards per game to the other top talents they have faced this season and are dealing with multiple injuries in secondary. Beckham appears poised to have a monster game in what could quickly morph into a shootout between two NFC east rivals.
Mike Evans ($23 Salary; 10th salary rank; 9th personal rank)
My ninth overall receiver Mike Evans has a plus matchup this week versus a San Francisco 49ers defense giving up the twelfth most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. The 49ers have allowed a mild 4.6 receptions and 75.29 receiving yards per game to the talented wide receivers they have faced this season but the Bucs present a unique situation. This contest has a 55 point total and the 49ers are only 3.5 point underdogs suggesting that game script coupled with an alarmingly poor ground attack should allow Evans to see plenty of targets in Jameis Winston’s return as a starter.
Julian Edelman ($20 Salary; 24th salary rank; 15th personal rank)
Julian Edelman returns from the bye week with a plus matchup versus a New York Jets defense surrendering the tenth most points to enemy wideouts. The Jets have relinquished big games to the non Danny Amendola slot receivers that have faced this season, giving up 72 yards or a touchdown in each contest. Even though he failed to find the end zone, Julian Edelman has been on fire over his past three outings averaging a scintillating eight receptions and 93 receiving yards per game. Expect Edelman to cross the 100 yard barrier for the third time in four contests with a strong chance to find the end zone for the third time in his suspension shortened season.

George Kittle ($27 Salary; 2nd salary rank; 1st personal rank)
Fantasy football’s newest elite tight end George Kittle gets a dream matchup in week twelve against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense hemorrhaging the second most fantasy points to enemy tight ends. In a game with a massive 55 point total Kittle should see plenty of work as the San Francisco 49ers top playmaker. The Bucs have given up TE1 level games to all of the starting tight ends they have faced this season and will likely allow their biggest game to the position this weekend. Kittle has been an absolute monster this season especially after the catch where he currently ranks second, not among tight ends but in the entire NFL.

Sony Michel ($22 Salary; 19th salary rank; 12th personal rank)
My current twelfth overall running back for week twelve, Sony Michel squares off against a New York Jets defense allowing the fourteenth most fantasy points to enemy running backs. The Jets have relinquished 4.53 yards per carry and 0.71 touchdowns per game on the ground to the RB2 types and better they have faced this season while surrendering a 4.2 mark on the season as a whole. The Patriots as ten point favorites are expected to run away with this one which should lead to plenty of carries for the Pats lead runner in Michel. Michel should cross 90 rushing yards with at least one score this weekend and is a strong play even before considering his recency biased based price tag.
Jacksonville Jaguars ($14)
The Jacksonville Jaguars have a road date with a lowly Buffalo Bills offense giving up the most fantasy points to opposing defensive units. Regardless of who starts at quarterback for the Bills this Sunday the Jaguars look like one of the top plays of the week. The Jaguars as a team may be sputtering but the defense has picked it back up recently, picking Big Ben off three times while having two more overturned due to penalties in week eleven. The Bills are always an offense to target when selecting D/ST targets and this week at a perplexing bargain of only $14 the Jaguars look like the best value play of week twelve.
