Jeff Brohm is saying all the right things about staying at Purdue, but is he wrong to not leave for Louisville?

Should he stay or should he go?

Jeff Brohm has led Purdue to a bowl game in his first two years with the Boilermakers, but could they be his last? Brohm is reportedly the top candidate to replace Bobby Petrino at his alma mater Louisville.

Brohm has been sure to push back against rumors attaching him to Louisville, even calling one report “completely false.” After Saturday’s 28-21 win over Indiana, he was, of course, asked about his future and if he plans to remain as Purdue’s coach.

“I want Louisville to do what’s best for them,” “I’m a fan. But right now, I’m the coach at Purdue. This is where I want to be and I like it here.”

For whatever extra that’s worth, Brohm apparently made sure to also address the Louisville matter with his players after Saturday’s game.

No coach is publicly going to say he’s considering leaving for another job, right up until the moment he’s hired elsewhere. There’s certainly appeal to staying at Purdue, playing in the weaker Big Ten West and continuing to build what he’s started in West Lafayette.

Louisville, on the other hand, plays in the same ACC division as Clemson and what looks to be a rising Syracuse as long as Dino Babers is in place. Louisville also appears to be at something close to rock-bottom.

Brohm can continue to say all he wants about false reports and pure speculation, while now expressing commitment to Purdue. But until Louisville hires a coach, those words have to be taken with some grain of salt. If it isn’t him, then Brohm can take a good measure of credibility with him into his third season in West Lafayette where he’ll likely receive an extension for his commitment to the Boilermakers.
