NFL DraftKings Week 12 Bargain Plays
By Bill Pivetz
Here are some bargain NFL DraftKings players that could separate you from the rest of the pack.
There are 10 teams worth of players unavailable to use in your NFL DraftKings lineup on Sunday. The six teams that played on Thanksgiving, the two that play Monday and the two on bye. Considering who plays for those teams, that is a lot of talent to be without when building your lineup.
If you want to avoid having the same lineup as the majority, you’ll have to stay away from the elite names. While having one or two won’t hurt your chances, using all highly-owned players won’t lead you to victory. Using a few cheaper options in hopes of a big game will push you up the winnings chart.
Here are a few cheap plays for each position. Cheap is a subjective term, so when looking at DraftKings, I used $5,900 as my cutoff point. Anything more than that and they lose their value.
QUARTERBACKS
Lamar Jackson, vs. OAK
Jackson put on a show in his first start. Though he didn’t impress as a pass thrower, he ran all over the Cincinnati Bengals, 26 attempts for 119 yards. He went 13-for-19 with one interception.
Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens take on an Oakland Raiders defense that is 30th against quarterbacks, according to DraftKings. He may not rack up the yards passing, but he’ll make up for it with his legs.
He’s priced at $5,700, just below my arbitrary cutoff. Jackson has another favorable matchup but could be a popular pick in lineups.
Nick Mullens, @ TB
Mullens was named the San Francisco 49ers starter coming out of their bye week. Going up against a weak Tampa Bay Buccaneers secondary should prove Kyle Shanahan right.
Mullens has 512 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in his two starts this season. The team averages 28.5 points per game in that span. This could be a shootout with Jameis Winston back as quarterback for the Bucs.
Mullens is priced at $5,400. That is a good price for what could be a career-best for Mullens.
Baker Mayfield, @CIN
Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns travel south to face the Bengals. Mayfield has scored 15 or more points in five of his last six games, including three 20-point games.
The breakout of running back Nick Chubb is helping Mayfield get time in the pocket to make his throws. He connected on all 12 of his first-half passing attempts last game and he can maneuver out of the pocket if necessary.
Mayfield may be my favorite out of the trio and at $5,500, he’s worth it.
NFL DraftKings Week 12 Bargain Plays
Marlon Mack, vs. MIA
Mack has scored a total of 21.7 points in his last two games. That is after back-to-back 31-plus point games. However, Mack should get enough carries to bounce back to his former self.
The Miami Dolphins rush defense is bad. They are ranked 29th and allow and average of 29.0 fantasy points to opposing running backs.
Andrew Luck has thrown at least three touchdowns in seven straight games. His success will lead to defenses focusing on him and not Mack. He’d make a good No. 2 option in lineups.
Gus Edwards, vs. OAK
This is a tough pick. Who knows if Edwards is going to be the lead rusher or fall back on the depth chart this week? He was impressive in Week 11 with 115 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. He’s going to be another popular pick.
The Ravens still have Alex Collins and Javorius Allen in the rotation. Though, Collins is listed as questionable with a foot injury. He was a full participant in Friday’s practice.
Edwards was lined up next to Jackson last week, so the two could be tied together as long as Joe Flacco is sidelined. Edwards will cost just $4,500. Game flow will be his only hurdle.
Josh Adams, vs. NYG
Adams has been the Philadelphia Eagles most successful running back in the last three weeks. He has at least seven attempts in that span with a total of 161 yards and a touchdown.
The New York Giants rush defense isn’t the best. They are 25th against the run with an average of 26.6 points allowed per game.
The Eagles offense scored just seven points in their last game. With a full slate of wide receivers available, Adams should be able to find the hole in the Giants front seven.
NFL DraftKings Week 12 Bargain Plays
Quincy Enunwa, vs. NE
Enunwa hasn’t scored 10 points since Week 4. With veteran Josh McCown under center and Robby Anderson questionable with an ankle injury, Enunwa could be in line for a big game.
The New England Patriots defense is ranked 23rd against opposing wide receivers. They’ve allowed back-to-back 30-plus point games to the Green Bay and Tennessee wide receivers.
Enunwa will only cost you $3,700, leaving you plenty of money to use on a top player.
Kendrick Bourne, @TB
This pick goes along with Mullens having a breakout game against Tampa Bay. Pierre Garcon has been ruled out and Marquise Goodwin is listed as doubtful. Bourne is the top receiver available. He has 13 receptions, 116 yards and a touchdown in his last three games.
Outside of George Kittle, Mullens is going to target Bourne a lot. DraftKings is PPR scoring, so Bourne’s value rises as a result.
He’s priced at $3,900.
Adam Humphries, vs. SF
On the opposite side of the field is Humphries. He’s listed as the No. 3 wide receiver behind Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson but he’s outscored Jackson and Evans in two of their last three games.
Humphries has just five catches in his last two but racked up 113 yards, 22.6 YPC. The 49ers defense is middle of the road against the past but has struggled in their last couple of games.
Winston will be throwing the ball a lot and at $4,000, Humphries could be the benefactor.
NFL DraftKings Week 12 Bargain Plays
Cameron Brate, vs. SF
With O.J Howard out for the season, Brate has the starting tight end job to himself. Listed at 6-foot-5, he is an end zone target for Winston. Though, based on his current production, he is touchdown dependent.

Brate is priced at $3,600 because of it.
Chris Herndon, vs. NE
Herndon will be another benefactor with Anderson out. He’s a touchdown in three of his last five games, though hasn’t scored any in the last two weeks. The Patriots will likely run up the score, forcing the New York Jets to abandon the run.
Herndon is just $2,900 on DraftKings.
Buffalo Bills vs. JAX
The Bills defense struggled between Weeks 7 and 9, totaling just three fantasy points. However, in Weeks 5, 6 and 10, they averaged 12.33 points.
Facing a Jacksonville Jaguars offense struggling to pass the ball, the Bills secondary should be able to snag a couple of interceptions. I expect them to stack the box against Leonard Fournette and limit his production.
$2,700 is a good bargain for a defense of this caliber.
Using a mix of elite and bargain players can win you a few bucks if done right. Using all of these bargain players and hope for the best is another route you can go. It may not work but if it does, you’ll be the only winner in the league.
